It was interesting to see your staged approach. Great way to see the individual impacts of each mod along the way. My legacy has dual avcs on the intake and exhaust so it would be interesting to see if that helps at all. I just need to decide on exact Turbo to go for and get all the other supporting mods ready and fit them in one go, and get it remapped

Based on dual VVT data I have seen with regards to testing these LM's, you should see better spool and stronger torque.

Go for it!

i must start my own project thread so! Not sure the impreza owners will like a legacy muscling into their 400+ club! I spent the last few hours compiling a list of stuff to buy! I think it will be a few months before i get everything purchased! and then the suspension tweaks!!

Why not?

It's ScoobyNet (not ImprezaNet).

Ah just joking. Just the usual banter you usually get between impreza and legacy owners slagging each other off about which model is better etc!

Well that's a no-brainer, seeing as you're asking.

...Less weight as starting point............

Since I probably won't have another chance prior to mapping, I nipped out in the Scoob today to "run" the fuel down a bit and also stick these items in the boot ready for when I get to Tracktive Solutions.

LOL @ Joz

Immy,
That's still my opinion. This is for "testing" purposes only.

It's taken about 8degs of ignition and rapid, to the point I'm refusing to continue the road mapping. It's now going on the dyno at Tracktive to play with the ignition further and see if we're going past peak power.

Blimey.

+ 8 degrees should = some decent extra bhp & lb ft!

If I remember correctly, isn't it like 10bhp per extra degree of timing? Or am I way off?

It's a possible 6bhp per degree all things being equal... Which they never are. Problem with the fans has stopped play for the moment.

BRB.... Hopefully.

LM450 Methanol Mapping Session @ Tracktive Solutions
Nearly every performance "enhancement" outing I make with any Subaru never seems to be straight forward and regardless of what it is for..... it always takes a full day!

Whilst this first bit is not about today's escapades it might amuse you! The fact that I took photo's of it may make you laugh...... Richard Bulmer thought I was a proper nerd!

The last time I took my car to Richard for mapping he said he wanted to try something on the map to try and improve cruise fuel economy. I made a comment a few posts back in jest with John, but here goes some reality!

This is the mileage from a full tank and reset mileage. Now this is as it was when I got to Tracktive.

After travelling a further 35miles, soley because the first Shell we went to had no VPower , this is how the gauge looked.

Name: IMG_1322.jpg

Size: 227.9 KB

The added kicker was after filling up, there was still 7ltrs in the tank!!

So it did 338 miles on 53ltrs of fuel, which equated to 29mpg and gave a theorectical tank mileage of 383 miles!

So John... but It has nothing to do with my "granny" driving and must have everything to do with Richard Bulmers mapping.

So as you can see the day didn't start off great with the petrol fill-up part. But I needn't have worried as I could have got back home on the fuel I had left, according to the mpg. lol It was quite funny though as we both had differing bets as to whether the car was going to make the next petrol station.

Before I set off from Tracktive (to a Shell garage) I decanted the Meth from one of the 25ltr containers into my normal petrol cans. Since this was the first tank full of mix, I took a 10ltr can and filled that with Meth (measured) and took a 5ltr can and put 2ltrs in that. 12ltrs in all which equates to a 20% mix on a 60ltr tank full.

We got to the Shell station and I put the 10+2ltr cans in first and then brimmed with VPower. This would ensure a good mix - no point putting the Meth in last.

Apologies for being detailed on how I filled it up. Sounds basic I know, but maybe of use to others who don't know.

We then hit the road and Richard starting remapping, firstly ensuring the fueling was set-up correctly.

One of the biggest changes is fueling when using something like Meth. It drastically alters AFR's, making the car run lean as it effectively requires more fuel "putting into the map" as the burn rate is totally different. This is one of the reasons (main reason) why you need to have a remap or switch maps, when running a car with this kind of fuel make-up. If you don't your car will most probably blow a nice fat hole through your piston. Not what you want.

Once the fuel map was more or less there, Richard started to put more ignition into the map.

On the fourth 4th gear pull he had put either +7 or +8degs into the map, at which point my **** was starting to fall out the bottom of my trousers. Being on roads that you don't know and with a car that was getting increasingly "lairy", it was decided to get back to the unit and put the car on the Dyno to finish off the WOT mapping.

To be honest Richard said the car was more of less there, but he was slightly concerned that we may have taken the ignition too far and passed MBT (Minimum Best timing for Torque).

The way I understand this, is that it's the point where best torque is produced and it's possible to pass this point (assuming you're not limited by knock), which can either result in no further power or negatively reduce power.

Richard was quite surprised at how much ignition it was taking with no knock. It's quite easy to see the difference that altering ignition has, when you're doing runs on a dyno to compare. So I didn't feel quite so bad that I had bottled it on the road.

It felt bloody ballistic though and so smooth!

We spent a fair bit of time on the dyno and the resultant end map was running slightly more ignition in some places and slightly less in others. Interestingly we even brought the boost down a tad which the engine responded well to (in comparison to the previous road map).

Tracktive have a hub dyno so it's pretty pointless to put the figures up in my opinion. The comparisons look healthy though.

The car is down to Charlie's tomorrow at Surrey Rolling Road, so that will be "the" comparison for me.

Huge thanks to Richard and his team at Tracktive..... every day is an adventure when it comes to my cars!

For sure.... I think it will be about +30bhp / + 30lbft (peaks) over the previous run @ SRR. Not as much as I thought (on the bhp front).... but as ever, it does what it does.

Looking forward to seeing the results.

Are you going to have the maps overlaid for direct comparison?

En route now. Just stopped for the first 20% meth mix.

Yes I will get comparison graphs.
