Anyone know if the impreza diesel is staying as a hatch or going the way of the sti, to a saloon?
Pslewis has got me thinking of jumping to diesel, but I do like scoobs.

Wish I could afford a decent diesel. All the ones in my price range when I bought the ST were just not as nice. Diesels deliver much more torque and are far more economical but unfortunately they don't seem to get the nice seats or colour coded bodywork, nice wheels etc. That does seem to be changing for the better though
I should have saved a bit more and got the Diesel ST Mondeo.

Its fine. Suffers the same problem as its petrol brothers (soft suspension), other than that its a nice car. A few options are available for it, like a cheeky remap and a few bling bits, but there isn't a huge amount of mods available yet.
Oh and I average 48 mpg with easy and not being too gentle with the car, thats a mix of motorway, country lane and round town. I use if to everything inc commuting and get that.
250 miles a week and I fill up every 9 days (cpmaired to every 4 in my old classic).

What's the story with the DPF? Any smokey moments?
I probably cover only 6k miles a year; most of it at low speed or in traffic. It gets a short run on the motorway every other week. I'm not sure if the diesel makes much sense for me. What do you think?
I took a WRX-S out this morning, had a look at the Civic last week and will be trying the 1.4 TSI golf next week.

No smokey moments for me, bhut then I do a shed load of miles. Infact no ones noticed soot when I've put my foot down either.
TBH if you only do 6k a year, I wouldn't get a derv. You need to do something like 12k min to get the benefits.

I do about 6500 miles a year ..... and bought a Diesel ...... it was just so much better than a petrol - mpg was an issue (but when diesels drive like they do now, well, they are simply better!)

You made me have a close look at the Civic. I know the engine is good from the Accord and the spec is excellent for the money. I also knew that headroom was tight in the back but was surprised that it was also a limiting factor in the front. The only way I could avoid the roof was by reclining the seat to an angle that I found uncomfortable and pulling the steering wheel back.
That was just in the showroom so I will give it a try on the road later as it makes a lot of sense in most other respects.
The WRX-S was very nice but I couldn't live with the pre-modded look of the thing. It felt very much like the last Legacy. Hardly surprising as it is based on the same platform. People talk about the hatch being smaller than the old cars but that is simply not true - apart from the boot it is a much bigger car. The inside is pretty much as big as the old Legacy.

I took the WRX-S out and had a very close look at it ... dog wouldn't fit, plastics are terrible in a £20k car, it wallowed a bit on the road (not planted like my Classic), it had the same road tax as the STi (£950 first year, £435 each year after that) and of course low 20's mpg. I did like it though ...... but, then along came the Civic .....
I took the Civic Type R out and just couldn't get on with it - to much like hard work! The seats were rather 'hugging' so the salesman pointed me to a Type S ... we only have a diesel you can take out at the moment, he said. Game Over!
The diesel Type S is a far better drive than the Type R - more involving, more rewarding, that turbo boost and torque is intoxicating! I think you need to take it out alone to really appreciate what a brilliant drivers car it is. Of course, add £110 a year Road Tax, 55 mpg, and amazingly low Insurance and it becomes a no-brainer ..... personally I think it looks great too (it has been made to look like the Type R).
The Civic was cheaper than the WRX-S .... maybe not now that there are amazing offers on the Impreza's (£15k for a new WRX is a bargain if that's what you want ..... but, no-one does anymore).
If headroom is an issue ... and I did think it would be for me as the seats don't go as low as I would like ... but it isn't in reality. I have the panoramic sunroof on mine (without it it would gain headroom) ..... I did sit in it again and again and pondered over the headroom - but, I have to say, on the road all worries about it disappear. You do sit a lot higher than in the Impreza (and that can make you think you are too high in the seat, you aren't in fact).

I'll try it next week. I put some Prodrive Recaros in my Classic but had difficulty getting used to the higher driving position - I've gone back to the original seats now.
I saw a silver WRX on the road today (a first!!!) and was surprised how much I liked it. There is still something telling me not to buy one though..... even at £15k!

3 weeks in and I still have more than 1/2 of my second tank of fuel left..... this is a gooooooood feeling - my filling station must think I've left the area!

Staggering really ...... and I have a 50 litre tank too!!
I used to get about 230 miles from 60 litres ...
But this mod has transformed things ... amazed, shocked and pleasantly surprised!
You want to know what I did - don't you?
I bought a Honda Civic Diesel ... 340Nm of Torque ... but 50+ miles per gallon
And the car only has 525 miles on it ... can only get better!
