£940 for something you can buy for £599?

I'll be dropping into the Carphone Whorehouse today to have a butchers & see if they have any stock, otherwise my local O2 store reckoned they would have some in on Saturday.

Lets just get one thing straight shall we. I never once said that you were talking rubbish during your rants and digs about your issue with Jack Clark and others on here . In fact I could see your point.

What I did object to was the constant moaning about it and in fact I suggested that you and Jack should just agree to disagree. I can pull up the old threads if you want me to but I cant be bothered right now.

You then came back with a load of tosh and your favourite smilie and I simply replied with quite a direct appraisal of you. End of.

Now I am quite happy to put my hands up when when I think something does not work or has a fault, regardless of whether it is an Apple product or not. Never been blind or so much of a fan to be blinkered, however in this case I think it is a straight forward fault by design and should be mentioned, hence my thread.

There, feel better now ?

Not blinkered? hahaha Come on, it's a piece of gadgetry that you queued up to buy on it's first day of release that to be honest, isn't that much different than the previous version. There's nothing to be ashamed of, but stop kidding yourself.

I`d certainly get a quality case if your going to buy one.

You just have to stand on one leg with your free arm pointing towards the cell tower pointing dog style.

Android FTW

Not blinkered as in if it has a fault, I would mention it. I queued up because I love my iphone and wanted the faster better model.

I remember the old G-shock watches and in the blurb it said it could be dropped from 33 1/2 feet and survive. Imagine my surprise and dismay when in the school playground, all my mates took turn in dropping it to see if it would survive. Amazingly it did until some smart **** just chucked it from 4 feet high with tremendous force onto an edge of concrete.

It did exactly what it said on the tin up until that point.

The good news is I've only dropped my 3Gs once, so I have four more Doh! moments to go, or was the old model tougher.

They should totally start making everything out of glass, it's such a great idea, robust and longlasting

Subaru should take note and get those new STI's made out of glass, it would look wicked cool, who care about anything else?!?

The point is though, they claim the iphone 4`s screen is supposed be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic, you wouldn`t expect that to just shatter like it did after only dropping it 4 times from just waist height. On the 2nd time they dropped it the phone went totally dead and wouldn`t turn back on.

Quote:

"The front side of the iPhone 4 is made of Corning Gorilla Glass, a chemically strengthened alkali-aluminosilicate thin sheet glass that is reported to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic. This special glass is supposed to make the phone more durable and more resistant to wear and tear."

Wear and tear, not trying to break it. Who knows if the next time he wasted a phone it would have broken on the 20th time. Silly bit of advertising by iFixit and many will fall for it.

If they did the same test again it could shatter or totally pack up the first time they dropped it, which ever way you look at it a phone that costs approx £600 with claims about its superior strength should not be shattering or going into a state where it won`t power back on after dropping it just 4 times from just waist height.

Judging by that video, it seems a lottery as to when it will pack up or break. It could pack up or shatter after just one drop, it doesn`t bode well IMO that the phone has been rendered totally useless after dropping it just 4 times.

I bet the majority of people will have accidentally dropped their phone at least twice in a year, on their test the phone totally packed up after being dropped just twice.

How about Swiss Tony drops his new iphone 4 on a hard surface 4 times to see what results he gets, we`ll take his results as gospel

Who said it totally packed up, maybe it's a fail safe, try not to be so negative, don't get sucked into the hype.

Its that much of a fail safe that they couldn`t get the phone to work again after dropping it just twice lol

I saw him pressing the 'home' button, might have been better off trying the power button but that wouldn't create as much negative speculation and publicity. But then we're both speculating, the difference is you're half empty and I'm half full.

Oh dear You just couldn't resist could you?

So in essence when it happens to your phone it's a design fault and worth posting a whole thread about it. When it happens to mine I constantly moan and come back with a load of old tosh. LOL!

I think hypocrisy is the word we are looking for

I think you struck a nerve there f1.

My cowon s9 has gorilla glass, guess what happened the first time i dropped it.

But then again it was apparently a fault batch of glass so im assuming the same has happened with the iphone, perhaps they need time to refine it seeing the phone is so new, like my s9 was at the time.

Either way id suggest insurance and a nice case for it.

I've dropped my N97 (how much were they when brand new?) like that several times by mistake and despite it being a PoS phone, its all fine and it still works!

Apart from the obvious reception problem, what is the call quality like and what is it like when you put the phone on speaker for calls

My sister is complaining of a bad echo when she is using it and she says she can only hear her voice, I think that's a women thing though Not sure whether that's hands free or phone or both but I'll report back.

What I do know is that she is returning it because she doesn't like the reception and the echo. She reports that the screen and camera are excellent but as a phone it just doesn't work.
