andy.f has done my last to scooby,s and done a fine job but would like to try jgm,simon for my next scooby when i get it as there has been so many good thing,s said about his mapping skill,s

Well I'm sure JGM won't mind me saying that my seven year old (48,000 mile) std clutch cried enough trying to manage 400/360....

It's not like it's his fault is it ?

I can comprehend that a struggling clutch is not the fault of a mapper, and as Mocom racing had commented 20k on an engine at 450+ BHP certainly says nothing at all derogatory about either the engine builder or the mapper on the RaceDynamix or other similar cars.

Forge, Samco or Prodrive Intercooler Y Pipe, i will avoid ebay cheap chinese jobbies otherwise all much for much? Likewise 3 port boost solenoids prodrive, perrin? What the kit to have?

Sorry Duncan but you are completely wrong on this from actual experience and that of customers and other mappers. Why do you think porting O/E headers and matched uppipe on a TD04 turbo is a wast of time?
Lots of guys out there have had O/E headers and matched uppipe for TD04 equipped cars and been extatic with the result, even before mapping.
Now I know I am biased but if you are still of the opinion it is a waste of time on a TD04 please explain why and I will quote to you the results obtained completely independant of me and published in a magazine test using a TD04.

RM11 : You make reference to uprated plugs. Go for NGK PFR 7B which should show good change out of£35. Going for expensive iridium will show no performance gain although they are well sold on the back of glossy advertising.

Ta Harvey, Hopefully you should've received my PP Payment for Fuel Pump. I am considering sticking to OE panel filter based on your findings, at least I know it will be replaced every now and again, also wondering about sticking to OE plugs now to keep things simple when renewing (they are due to be changed in two weeks anyway) do you think the PFR 7B's are worthwhile or is it all just glossy advertising?

Well I was chatting to Andrew Carr today, and thanking him for his email with ecu pinouts for my car.... and he hasn't even mapped mine !

He said that one day this week, he spent three hours mapping a car and when he checked his phone after, he had twenty missed calls.

And they weren't all from one person either.... Nightmare to keep track of ?

I have your payment and the fuel pump goes today to be with you tomorrow before 13:00. The spread of power on testing four filters was 1.7 bhp and there is nothing wrong with the OE filter other than it needs to be changed regularly at less interval than Subaru recommend. On a car I am keeping I use a K+N panel.
The plugs I recommend are NGK PFR7B. Read above. I don't think they are heavily advertised. The plugs that are heavily advertised and more expensive usually are the Iridium in various guises and because of my experience I wouldn't fit them.
When fitting plugs on a Subaru I usually gap them at .65mm and not the recommended .8mm. Often this avoids misfires which I think are caused by the turbo blowing the spark out.

Bob Rawle
& Duncan at RaceDynamix

Both did superb jobs and provided reliable warp factor maps

If you only have experience of one mapper I doubt you are in a position to know how well your car has been mapped. If any mapper adds 20 bhp to the car it is obvioiusly going to feel far better than it was before but what if it has potential for 40 bhp? How are you ever going to know if your mapper has released the potential?
There are horses for courses and I have had cars mapped by four prominent mappers and I regularly use three of them, two with dyno facility which is invaluable when we are developing turbo configurations, Pat Herborn at Scooby Clinic and Steve Simpson at TEG Sport, Carnforth but every six weeks we have Bob Rawle here and map six to nine cars. In all the time we have been doing this I think there are only two cars I can remember that we were not able to complete the map on. One when the clutch went so badly we could not finish mapping and one car which was delivered on the back of a trailer but was chucking out clouds of smoke before we even started mapping. The customer had changed his breather system and it was not practical for us to rectify on the day. Both cars were mapped on the next visit. Other than that all maps have been completed successfully and cars that have been rolling roaded afterwards have always given good results. On one occasion we spent five hours on one car including changing the alternator which was only making 11.5 volts and just last weekend we had to regap some plugs to get rid of a misfire and we were happy to do that FOC because the car had been properly prepared and the issue only showed up as we added power.
Remember Bob Rawle only maps usually on a weekend so the poll above probably reflects a two day mapping week for Bob.
Choose your mapper carefully and ensure the car is well prepared before your sesion date arrives. The last thing you want to happen is a fault that you cannot rectify immediately or the mapper is not preparedto overcome. The choice of mapper is critical to the future performance and longveity of your vehicle.

I don't have the car anymore as I sold it 3 months ago.
But it was an MY05 STI PPP and Andy Forrest remapped it at about 30K and it had 64K on it when I sold it.
Never missed a beat during that time.

Powerstation mapped my 04 WRX ecutek.
AndrewC mapped my 53 STi twice on opensource.
Richard Bulmer mapped my 08 STi ecutek.

Very pleased with all the results from the above, no issues at all.

Interesting! I run 1.8bar boost which was blowing my plugs out ie misfiring at high rpm. A knowledgeable chap recommended I get NGK race plugs (R7435-8) which caused me to when purchasing as best price I could secure was over £100 for all four ... would your £35 plugs do me next time I change em?

Having had experience with four different mappers, Bob Rawle and Simon (JGM) are the two I had positive experiences with and would recommend either.

The only mapper that I have experience of is Bob Rawle who I have nothing but praise for, if I ever drop him an e-mail regarding a problem or modification he always gets back to me with good advice.

Having organised a Group Buy with Bob I can say that everyone of the 22 people his been happy with their mapping sessions.

I have also found JGM, Dynamix plus a few others very helpful with technical problems/advice after all they do not have to give out free advice but they do it anyway.

I would say as long as you stick to a mapper with a good reputation and acknowledged good customer service you will not go too far wrong.

JDM STi mapped by Paul @ Zen Performance 2.5 years ago, done 8K with no issues what so ever, recently been back for a tweek, done 1K since then again no problesms, car drives spot on. Had no experience with other mappers, but I know people that have, none of the above btw, but have supposedley more power and are not as quick as my humble 350/360.

Fingers crossed that he can accommodate me but if not I will probably go down the opensource route.

IMHO a good remap isn't just about top end power figures but more about how the car drives generally, however, equally as important is just how tractable it is from low down.

Torque is what makes for a quick car, bhp just keeps it there. You've only got to look at a WRC car for that. Shedloads of low down torque and only 300bhp.

I don't agree with that statement Harvey (sorry )

my 1st STI (a 2003 UK Blob) was initially mapped by ***** (not on this list so I'm not mud slinging) and on leaving the garage I had high hopes of this wonderful Ecutek map.... only to feel it no better than before (despite a R/R sheet that stated I had +30/30 over my standard map).

After 4 weeks of mulling around (and a re-visit to the mapper to rectify a CEL issue, which they couldn't) I gave up on them and went to Bob Rawle.... and at that point I got my money's worth (another 20 horses for a start)...

I suppose my point is I KNEW my first re-map was not great...having never previously experienced one or not...

yep ive had the exact similar experience to you with the first map i had on my current car, although over the last 9 years of ownership (different cars) ive now used 7 different mappers so i guess im in a good position to compare
