2008-2010 2.5ltr Engine Failures
It was something IM offered driver of the hatch that were arguing about engine failures and warranty claims. According the the IM top man while being interviewed by the SIDC no one took them up on the offer.
Sorry fella your wrong. I work with these cars day in day out and I can clarify they don't have any datalogger fitted on the std & 330s equivelant fitted. They are fitted with a metasat satalite tracking system & this was fitted by the import center upon vehicle arrival in the country.
From the minute you turn the key it can monitor everything the ecu see's i.e engine rpm.map pressure.coolant temp. Yaw sensor.steering angle etc etc. basically can tell if your abusing the vehicle in anyway shape or form. also the metasat can link to locations too.
The cvn & CID number in the ecu serve as a proof the ecu hadn't been fettled
very interesting to say the least As there isn't one in My Hatch sti. only the metasat unit. even if there had been it would have been ripped out, My views it's my car I'll do what I like with it I paid for it no-one else..
I heard someone on here had their warranty extended but in agreement that they fit a logger.
Prob drove it like its stolen
Basic rule is. If you can't drive or wanna map it, forget this convo, and live with the fact blow it up your paying, don't try hide it.
I've been trolling USA forums for a year or 2 and they just always get that Cobb access port and it never really helps they still blow up, and then SOA deny warranty, the uk has been good as we don't have any bar one blow.

I think the owner decided against that option and sold the STi
Data loggers not fitted as standard. Perhaps I.M are implying they are so that customers go easy.
Still astounds me that they have put so much effort into body swerving what is a undisputable issue. I loved my time with Subaru but i will never ever buy again, simply because of the sickening way they deserted the Hatch owners when there engines started to melt.

I recently bought an sti type uk advertised on eBay.
I collected the car from the Doncaster dealer with a trailer and van putting the engine in the van .
The owner of the car paid the finance off the car in front me 19k , I paid him 11k
I felt sick for him , the engine has blown at 12000 mile but he had missed the service by 1000 , he had taken the car expecting it fixed , they refused.
So gave him the car back with engine out with a bill for the work .
The owner was a young guy and a felt Subaru had taken advantage .
I had Teg rebuild the motor , with forged piston ect, but wanted to find why she blew so put her on the rolling road . It transpired the injectors, were working at 99 % and steve said to check fuel pump .
As the cars under warrantee it went back to my local dealer I told them the story saying I had paid for an engine would they replace the pump , they said they would Check it out . Two days later I was informed the pump was ok .
When I asked if they had pressure checked it they said yes I but I didn't believe them
I put a new pump in at my expense , put it back on the R road and the injectors
Are working fine.
I am not an expert but i am also not stupid .
When I originally collected the car from Doncaster I spoke to the engineers, asking why it had blown and they said it was because he drove it too hard and because the oil was 1000 miles over it was like treacle .
This is bo**ks
I owned many sti' s over the year including my first brand new one which was a P1 ( showin my age ) and I drove that really hard with no probs
I think this is all very disappointing behaviour from what was an iconic brand .
As with and business you only get remembered for your last f**k up !

It's not about being fully forged though. It's about having the confidence that a manufacturer will stand behind there product. What Subaru have done is not just ignore the issues but go out of there way to blame the customers.
I agree that they were iconic but they have plunged into the gutter and cannot be trusted. Many die hards have moved on after progressing through the different variants. You just cannot treat customers like this in any business and they deserve the current sales and the general slide in all that they do.

Sooner I.M go into administration the better
Introducing these hatches appear to be the worst thing Subaru ever did. To me you sacrificed a bit of refinement for performance, performance orientated styling and Japanese reliability. Coupled with now what appears to be appalling customer service there really doesnt seem to be anything left anymore...and to think I was contemplating getting a hatch for my next car.

The appear to have made the newer pistons more fragile than the previous hawkeye 2.5
You may be interested to know that the pistons listed for the EJ257 engine in Hawk, Hatch and Saloon are all the same and always have been. (no suceeded by numbers)
You don't find many Hawks with ringland failure for sure. The issue is not simply about pistons, it's a combination of factors all of which could easily have been resolved if Subaru had the desire.
They have potentially stitched up every owner from 2008 onwards. Sales numbers are now very low and this to a degree will disguise the fact there are still issues even on the very late model cars.
Such a shame but that's the reality. Subaru will of course continue to pay the price (and quite rightly so)

What percentage of Subaru sales are Imprezas and what percentage of Impreza owners use forums such as this? Im usually surprised by the relatively low numbers and therefore unsuspecting victims there will be buying them in ignorant bliss.
I agree that not enough people use these forums before they purchase a subaru, I had 2 subarus and went for my 3rd which unfortunately was a hatch STI but as the previous 2 cars were great and did exactly what they were designed to do I wrongly persumed that a new model would have an improvement in engineering but sadly I found out at cost this was not true. The response from the IM group made me see what they thought of their loyal customers. Will never buy again IM..

I think i've been lucky here, i bought a 2006 2.5 hawk 3-4 weeks ago and its not ran right since. Local dealer i purchased it from tried a few checks and software updates before compression testing and it was low on cylinder 4. They replaced short motor with no questions asked and gave me courtesy car whilst it was done. There was a huge part of piston cracked off!
