Just found this on the Web. The road is closed for pipe works but if the signalling is wrong they should not do you for it.

Lol. Well i still dont know if i am to blame or the sign is misleading.

I also think i may have gone into a bus lane again today. I pulled into the left lane and immediately realised it was the bus lane and shot back out again.

I am starting to agree with you.

I am now waiting to see if i get another PCN in the post for doing the same thing again yesterday in a different part of London.

This has really affected me you know. I was terrified to go into the left hand lanes all day in case they were a bus lane. Sometimes they say 'Bus Lane' on the road and other times they dont but but still have double red lines in them. I dont have these lanes where i live so they are alien to me.

I nearly caused an accident when my sat nav said turn left. I was in the middle lane but i was too scared to go into the left lane in case it was still a bus lane so i waited till i got to the junction then went left as fast as i could cutting across everyone and getting loads of verbal abuse in the process.

God only knows how tourists from other countries cope with London!!!

lol, Sara. When I, very rarely, drive in London I don't seem to have problems staying out of Bus lanes and I'm properly colourblind. Look at the road and not the satnav

Me and driving are probably like two pieces of different puzzles. I cant imagine being colour blind as well. You will have to come to London with me one day as my passenger.

About 18 months ago i was not in a bus lane in London but a bus decided to pull into the lane i was in and hit my car, spun it round and drove off. I had my daughter sitting on the side that got hit so we were very lucky it wasn't more serious.

I think i may have become too reliant on my Sat nav in London and dont use my eyes to look at whats around me enough.

If i see the words Bus Lane painted in red i am ok but the problem starts when i have passed the painted words. I suppose a clue might be that there is no normal traffic in the lane.

I am always so glad to get home without incident but oddly i dont manage that too often.

Sara,

It looks like there was a temprorary restriction on anything other than taxis and buses using the road - irrespective of the bus lane. From the link in Leslie's post:

Please note the following:

General motor vehicle access to Wilton Road will be prohibited;

Bus, black taxi, pedestrian and cycle access on Wilton Road will be maintained;

Nothing misleading in the signage - the arrow is simply there to direct traffic around the roadworks. Nothing more, nothing less.

Ask them to evidence that the restriction on use was clearly marked beforehand for traffic. If it wasn't, you should have a very good case.

If, however, there was a big f*ck off sign alerting you to the restrictions, then you should just pay the fine and accept the fact.

Chances are you missed the signs when you entered wilton road.

I am going to email them tomorrow and i am going to ask them to tell me where the signs are i have missed. I also wonder if it is possible that a bus could obscure a sign as it passes it.

Are you sure?

I was never able to trace the bus and the bus never reported anything. The driver didn't even realise anything had happened.

Better than paying a £60 fine for going in the bus lane.

Why the sexist remark? I have seen a lot worse driving and funnily enough by men.

Strange you should mention that. Tonight, taking my daughter to the stables. Am pottering along a very narrow road, traffic quite busy as it was a round about chucking out of work time.
I had just put on my indicator to turn right, and this black bmw, which had been sitting on my ar$e for about two thirds of the length of narrow road, decided to overtake me I had to do a full emergency stop.
The stupid, stupid tit of a bloke. Lucky for me, I looked in my rear mirror and had a feeling that he was going to do this. It was about 10 yards from a junction too. If I had not looked in my mrror and continued to turn right, I doubt the outcome would have been very good.

Default Wilton Road

Did you get anywhere with resolving this?

I have just had the same thing happen to me. There was definately no signs on the day but since I have been back to Wilton road, signs have magically appeared!

I saw that in the paper as well SS, did not know then whether it was the same road. I hope that publicity will make them climb down and cancel the fines.

Maybe that is why they haven't emailed back to me. Its the same place mentioned in the paper. It happened at the end of March and sent it back as soon as i got it. More than 10 working days have passed.

If they decide not to do anything about it would they inform me or just leave me hanging on? I dont want to contact them in case they have forgotten to deal with it

Maybe best to let sleeping dogs lie Sara, unless they have made any demands on you for cash or whatever.
