If it makes you feel any better, back in 2005 I had a brand new Golf GT TDI, and after 26,000 miles i had enough, the straw that broke the camels back was when the clutch failed on me 11 (yes ELEVEN) miles after a new one was fitted. This was after a new gearbox was fitted at about 20,000 miles, but as VW were paying they didnt want to replace the clutch as well. I bet if it was me paying a clutch would have been mandatory then.
I had some great discussions about that 11 mile clutch ;-) however I got my way in the end :-D

Well, they' ve told me that they can find nothing wrong with the rear diff. I immediately thought prop shaft at this point, but do you actually touch the prop shaft when dropping the gear box out?
Also, they still think that there is nothing wrong with the clutch switch, so I had to point out it doesn't store a fault you have to look at the live data for this. So hopefully next time it is out for a test drive they'll remember to check.
Apparently they are going to drop my diff into a donor car to see if the fault goes with it. Only there aren't many donor cars like mine.

I've been waiting months for a "identical" mileage/age R32 manual to come in to the dealers assertain if the drivetrain on that makes a knocking noise too.

The thick plottens
Now they're swapping the rear diff.
This is going to be about £2500 worth of work, in addition to the £1500 for the clutch and flywheel (I'll not mention the work needed before I even got it and right after I got it). This car has cost Audi a fortune.

Kieran - hate to be a bore but doesn't this all worry you a bit? I find one major problem usually leads to another and I'm thinking the drivetrain of a 3.0TDI is under a lot of pressure.
Will there be a stage where you think "f**k it?" Just worried you are in for a major headache. Some pretty major work being done to your car.
A real shame.

You've beaten me Kieran (not that running up the biggest warranty bill is a competition 
). My VW has cost VAG £2900 thus far as it didn't rectify it and the case still pending, so it may still escalate.
Still, not as much the new engine in our one BMW (excessive oil consumption).
Sometime you can understand why warranty companies drag their heals.

This amount of work is a bit worrying and the fact you're having to tell them how to identify faults. I think I would be very close to the "f**k it" stage now.

I'm not hugely worried tbh, more annoyed at not being able to drive the car I own. I've phoned the dealership I bought it from as Derby Audi are starting to get annoyed at the amount of work they are having to do.

Well - lots really.
I had a rattle out the pram moment when I got the car back to take it for a spin myself
- the vibration when accelerating is still there and Audi are stumped. So I took it to AV Performance to have a look. Ben there turns out to be the guy that apprenticed the Audi technician trying to sort the problem! As AVP were able to accurately diagnose the flywheel being faulty from a simple test drive I figured it was a smart move.
The theory now is that it's an engine mount or two that has gone....
However - I kind of exploded when I realised that 3/4 of a tank of V-Power diesel had been used while the car was with Audi.
Couple that with Audi Derby having the car for a fortnight; I'd had enough. So I've told Audi Wolverhampton to sort the damn' thing out. They sold me a crap car and they should be the ones sorting it out.
Their bodyshop actually scratched the rear offside wheel arch and patched the repair rather than fully smooth it out and respray it... so that's something else for them to sort.
So - I want it fixing. By them and I want the car returned to me as if I had just bought it. i.e. spotless, serviced and a full tank of diesel in there.
Watch this space.

Blimey Kieran - sounds like it's turning a bit nasty. Got copies of their sales agreement, Ts and Cs, etc? Mention you are an active user on various Audi websites (whether you are or not) too - seems to help sometimes.
Vx scratched our Astra when it was in for repair - had wife not spotted it, they would have got away with it - they were clearly not going to tell us yet knew exactly when and how it happened...

Further on 'My '06 A4 2.7Tdi' diagnosed by main dealer with slipping clutch requiring new clutch assembly: independant inspections elsewhere has found no fault - certainly not slipping and still with a healthy life expenctancy!

Right. Car going into the dealers that sold it to me on Monday. Expect another long and sorry tale.
It started with an email from them confirming a booking for "investigation" and "diagnostics" with directions on how to get there.
My tersely worded reply rejected the investigation statement as the fault had already been confirmed (and worked on for two weeks) and how I didn't need directions as they were dropping a courtesy car off and taking mine back....

Chap who works for me bought a low mileage Audi A4 cabrio about 18 months ago. The engine blew up on that before it ewas even delivered to him, Audi replaced it but then the gearbox lunched itself again before it had even got to him so he canned the purchase and bought another A4 cabrio 2006 car. He sold it last year after an incredible string of failures.
Plus stripping threads in head, trashed gearbox, clutch, flywheel, coil packs. He spent thousands trying to fix the car and now just cut his losses and sold it for whatever he could get.
I've also got an older A4 and am staggered as how badly some of the car seems to be designed compared to the Impreza. My Scoob has never once gone wrong , needed anything replacing bar normal service items.
