Fantastic!! I knew EcuTek were working on some clever stuff but a one touch auto tune button. Nice!!

even if it is, the results and reliability speak for themselfs,me personally is very impressed with ecutek! wish i could coment on os but know f**k all about it!

its not finished yet but 300/300 so far,going for about 340 on stock motor.i am a very happy enginetuner customer and they did a very good job on the other work i had done aswell,clutch,flywheel etc etc.

You'e probably right because If your info is correct and you have a 94 classic then neither OS nor EcuTek could help you. Your best solution would be ESL.

Surely the mapper is the most important thing? If they REALLY know what they are doing and you trust them with your pride and joy and they have a good rep then it wont matter what they use?

I didnt know about OS when I first got my car EcuTek'd otherwise I think I might of give it a whirl. Purely so I could do my own datalogging without buying Delta Dash.

Anyway first outfit that mapped my car with Ecutek give me a rubbish map and the car drove like ****e, the backup was pants and tried laughing off the problems I was getting saying " dont worry about it" so there is also some rouge EcuTek dealers. Got Andy F to map it and it was great, changed the turbo and got another Andy map. Car run great but later developed problems.

Couldnt get a response from Andy to try and address the problems but it was close to him getting his 8.87sec run so I knew he was up to his eyes so cant blame him for being busy and unable to answer/help. Also being in Northern Ireland made it a bit difficult.

Got a Simtek fitted by OMA in Northern Ireland and got the user tune kit so at least now I can have a go myself. Just need to find out how to work it now I'm living in Oz and there is no SimTek dealers!

From what I can see the EcuTek dealers here in Oz are all moving to OS with 1 company having developed their own version called HPFlash.

P.s Not making any sort of complaint about your service, I mean if you were able to answer/respond instantly that would mean you had no work and if a tradesman has no work its because no wants to use them!

No probs guys Yes it can be tricky trying to find the balance between work and play when scoobies are concerned but I usually get back to my emails within a few days...... when we are not away racing.

something that does interest me is the whole legal side of things? most of the open mappes don;t seem to have a connection to any workshops and basicly operate from home. how does liability isnurance etc work for this? i asked htis before and no one responded also what happens if things go worng and the engine goes up in smoke?

caveat emptor !

Buyer beware. All of this sort of work is at your own risk, and I'm sure any decent mapper would refuse to work on any car deemed unsuitable. Many may help sort minor issues, but if it came in smoking and knocking...

i can see that not being a good business idea, if you blow someones car up then dump them in the poo then your gonna get a very bad rep, but what about while your mapping? you are working then you should have all sorts of insurance, public liability etc etc

lets say you have a crash, the owner of the car says the person was being paid to map the car, 3rd party or even drivers fully comp insurance wont cover this.

You're making a false distinction between the "Open" and EcuTeK network on this issue I'd suspect, as in practice I'd suspect they'd work largely the same way.

If an engine suffers damage or failure it would, one would imagine, be up to you to sort out.

Aside from anything else, it would be almost impossible for you, as an end user, to prove whether engine management changes instigated by a third party were responsible for a failure, or whether it occurred as a result of an issue that was already festering before you had the car tuned.

Indeed I'd imagine most mappers would include an indemnification clause in any agreement/contract you sign.

As Duncan says though, they always have the option to decline to map an engine they have a bad feeling about - as aside from anything else, a good tuner's reputation can do without a ticked-off customer.

only in as much as most ecutek are actual workshops. although it porb is a distinction about road and RR mapping.

As both I and others have said before, the necessity to make a significant up-front financial investment in the EcuTeK system means that, as a rule, it will tend to be the preserve of experienced commercial tuning houses. However, as you acknowledge, not all of them are "actual workshops".

To be honest you are missing the point, it's nothing to do with affordability, it's to do with all mappers working on the basis that the owner of the car accepts any risk in altering the engine management system.

If you have your car EcuTeK mapped and it blows up a few days/weeks after, I strongly suspect that going back to the mapper will result in a reply along the lines of "sorry mate, it was okay the day it was mapped, and that's all I vouch for" (although I would be happy to stand corrected).

You're not doubt correct to imply that some will be better insured than others, but are equally a little misguided in trying to use this as a Tek vs Open issue.

Where it gets sh*tty is the type of "mapper" who, in their small print, explains that their "service" is limited to obtaining a "compatible map update" and "programming it on your ECU". That isn't mapping, in the true sense, at all, it's purloining/stealing a map done by someone else on someone else's car, bunging it on yours and hoping it works, thereby greatly increasing the chance of dissatisfaction at your end.

You can work on that basis that this sort of person would have zero insurance/business backing/etc but the end result would be the same as someone who did - in the event of an engine failure, tough titty.

My best solution would have been the Power FC that I bought and then sold having only taken it out of the box to photograph to advertise it for sale.

Mines not getting remapped.
