Yes the dog should of been on a lead but hey, GET REAL. the only reason a lead is needed is to restrain and lets be honest, what harm could it (the pup) of done? they are not a danger to anyone that young!! and as for being attacked before that is just a cop out imo. these tossers that smoke there weed and play "gangster" after school (assuming they even bother going) are cleverer than you are giving them credit for, they have blatantly kicked that animal because it is DEFENCELESS, no other reason whatsoever. this is how they operate, preying on the weak, vulnerable, naive and innocent for there own twisted enjoyment. OK not very smart to have it off the lead but there is something very wrong with a group of kids (hoddies so i guess kids) who do such a abborant thing. would you kick it in the head if off of a lead, i for one would not and i do not believe my kids or anyone else i know would either.

I don't think that he meant that Paul, not for one second. Just that all dogs 'should' be on a lead. Just in a general sense regardless of this situation.

The legal requirement for dogs being on leads is very fuzzy, it's not illegal for them to be off the lead in certain areas, but in areas where there are cars, children and other things that are considered to scare a dog the owner is required by law to keep them on a lead. In open countryside it's a different story, but no real hard and fast law (that I know of) so correct me if I am wrong.

 

A dog on a lead, is about as much fun as a Scooby in a locked garage.

You have to wonder at the home life of kids like this and the lack of parential control, teaching right from wrong and the lack of boundraries - if caught the police and social services should take a long, hard look at the families as a whole.

No worries. As someone who has owned dogs in the past and hoping too soon I feel strongly about never letting them off a lead anywhere near other people. Especially when you don't know how the public will react never mind the dog.

In this particular example, this puppy ran off and this unfortunately led to his death. But the fact of the matter is, if he ran off to a bunch of yobs, he could have also ran off under a car causing a lot more distress on a larger scale.

One reason I said that the pup should have been on a lead. Poor mite.

I just hope they realize what they did and feel guilt every time they see a dog, I suspect they were drunk or otherwise incapacitated, must have felt dead hard killing a tiny pup.

I wouldn't batter them, just gives them something to get angry about and they then take it out on something smaller, they should be made to sit in that familes living room and explain themselves and then spend all their free time working in the local dogs home.

 

This thread has just topped off ny day

I went out and executed a warrant earlier on a premises which CID belived woudl contain evidence of a robbery, for which the occupant had been nicked.

We got there, gained entry and my God, was it minging! Flies all over, dog **** all over, plates covered in mould, drugs, stolen goods, ripped up floor boards, baby clothes, gardedn at front and rear full of **** etc.

Then shortly after the occupants missus turned up - 16 years old with an 11 month old baby and expecting another one within the next two weeks.

Also in tow were two Staffy pups. After we'd executed the warrant and given her a headache on how to maintian the house, stating it's not fit for animals, humans or the living dead, the silly bint went and fetched the two pups and took them inside. I'm so tempted to go back round tomorrow to put the door through to save life and lib of those pups The baby has gone to SS and the one on the way will be goin there. Hopefully that will prevent scum breeding scum, but I just hope that the RSPCA will take these pups and find them a good home.

The idiot we've nicked got rid of his last pups, but I've not got the heart to tell you how. But the way he did it was as cruel as in this reported article.

 

I think I'm going to have to question that. I don't think there is any legal requirement to keep a dog on a lead.

Dogd should be kept "under control" at all times in public places, yes, but that is for reasons of public safety. A puppy off the lead in a park would not be considered to be a risk to public safety and therefore I doubt the 15 year old could be considered in any way to have broken the law.

Puppies need to be socialised. It would hardly be unreasonable to have a young (vaccinated) pup off the lead in a park to let it explore and play. The 15year old must be devestated. All for doing something that should be perfectly acceptable and quite understandable.

To all those saying it should have been on the lead, ok, this particular puppy would still have been alive, but that doesn't change the fact that the scum who did it are still scum. If it hadn't been that dog, it would have been something, or someone, else.

 

Hi Devildog... that is why I said ''(correct me if I am wrong)'' in my post, as I admitted I was not 100% on the regulations.

It is a matter of public safety, and like I said, if this puppy had been on a lead, it may still have happened had the girl walked across with the puppy, BUT the pup could have also wondered to a near by road and caused a fatal accident. Especially if it ran in front of an inexperienced driver who decides to swerve, (which we all know shouldn't be done) causing all sorts of damage.

I suppose there could be a whole heap of if's, and's and but's...... so I still stand by what I feel is safest all round, not just for the animal, but for the general public also.

I know the puppy wasn't exactly Kujo, (very far from it in fact), but we cannot give several different set's of rules based on age and cuteness.

Yes I agree that the puppy will thrive from a little run around and some social interaction, BUT as we all seem to be fully aware of the crappy society we now live in, it's not safe to do anything these days.

It's a damn shame when something like this happens, and it does make you wonder what has happened to the youth of today.
