ignoring a parking ticket?

I havet read many of the replies but here is what I know about tickets.
I've read that everyone should at leaste write a letter apealing the tickets for one reason or another - being late as you lost a child works as I have done it more then once. I also use scratch cards and it did fall on the floor which resulted in a ticket. I sent the date scratched off with a sorry letter and I was let off.
The only tickets I have never got away with was one in Westminster. During the appeal the 14days laps and they stung me for £90!
So. Everyone should apeal - out of 100 tickets issued only 20 people ever apeal. out of that 20 80% are let off. - If it's a first offence it should be easy.
One thing though. Like everyone has said. Don't just ignore it. The costs will rack up so high that they will take your car while you sleep. -If you see them doing it jump in it. Health and safty states they can't lift a car with someone in it!

I used to park in a rail car park with a private company handing out tickets. Never paid for a ticket even once & used to get a parking ticket every few weeks ... they write to you 4 times threatening court etc but there is NEVER anything after that. Like I say, the Local Authorities are a different story & you should appeal every time even if just to make the ******* work for their money rather than just roll over.

Anyone Ever read that email about the old man that sat at an entrance of a car park for 20years, charged a £1 a car and then one day wasn't there. He didn't work for the council or the supermarket. they worked it out that he had stole about 18million by pretending to be a parking attendent.

Bl00dy big car park.
Interesting thought though.

I parked in a station car park (NCP) in Nottingham. The sign said £5.50 for the night, so I put £5.50 in. The ticket printed with til Midnight on it, so I called the "hotline". The bloke said to pay another £5.50 and display both tickets.
Yep, I got a fine, I called them up and they refused to cancel it, so I kept phoning, back and back and back until they put me through to someone else. That person asked me to fax over my tickets which I did and he cancelled the ticket.
I then wrote to complain .. why would I pay £10.50 in tickets when the night cost (apparently) was £9. They wrote back and said NCP does not respond to complains and they consider the case closed.

It's always worth writing a grovel letter for council enforced ones. Soon as they get your appeal that have to put on hold the pay within 14 days pay £30 instead of £60 type thing so even if rejected you can still pay the reduced fine.
I got off the only parking fine I've ever had that way (late back to car in pay and display).
