Hmm, driver must have ignored the dumbass alarm.

Our old Manitou had a giant red foglight and buzzer mounted on the dash that would go ape should it get unstable...which usually happened when driving across steep slopes with the boom fully extended

 

Without wanting to sound clever, the alarm you are talking about is the SLI Indicator, which would only beep if there was too much load on the forks, not if the machine was unstable. If you are a fool you can drive around all day with the boom in the air, but sooner or later it will go over, as per the pictures !
