You choose the options closer to the time and only give an indication of what you want on the order form

Club Sport package with Carrera lightweight bucket seats.Club Sport package is not a no cost option as you have to order the leightweight seats which cost £3500!

Adaptive Engine Mounts
Front lift spoiler - to get over speed humps easier, etc (a £1900 option!)
Lightweight front light option
Metallic paint
Passenger side 6 point seat belts (driver side is standard)

Floor mats ;-)

Will probably go for the Phone module and the uprated sound system (if it doesnt weight too much - if it does I wont)

All in all above is about £90k!

I have to say, buying a Porsche is probably the best thing I've ever done. Even if it is only a Turbo'd one (for all you NA aficionados )

Well done for ordering one. There's NO way I could wait that long, though.

Nat
Well I want a reasonable sound system when driving to the track......and with the lightweight lights option I can do this
Dont think the lights was an option on the last GT3....

I stripped out all the sound system on the Scoob. couldnt really justify the sound system in a tinny car....... (I realised the hard way by wasting thousands that you cant get a really good sound on a classic - you can on the newer cars)

Zip
It gives me some more time to enjoy the STI5 and decide whether to offload or not.... whoever does get it will get a very nice car..... thats why I might keep it, just in case the Porsche doesnt meet expectations

Fangoria - that's what I tend to do.
Except I do it with £400 surfboards and £1000 pedal bikes , not £90k cars!!!

Sounds like a perfect car to me. I love the 997 - no model seems like a bad one.

Hiya mate, do you remember many years ago when you bought a gruppe-S manifold on the group buy from me? You came to my house in Gloucester to pick it up when I think you were one of the earlier guys to try a TD05-20G. Cant believe that you still have the Scoob after all this time! Whats it spec now and what would you be asking for it?

The GT3 is relatively civilised on the motorway but not that quiet that you would bother with investing in a decent sound system. The Porsche ones I have heard are rubbish!

Was looking at the Porsche sound system upgrade - sounds like I shouldnt bother

Spen
Thanks mate - long time since we spoke I'm sure! I've already spoken with Bob, not really worth it on a naturally aspirated.... Thats good as i've spend far more than £90k over the years on my sti5...

Mr Hoff ;-)
Course I do, the estate and where I parked by the side of the Terrace (it was either a 2 bed or 3 bed end terrace wasnt it?... then again it was many years ago) - was it a 2 bed I cant remember........ hope you dont still live there as that was more starter homes for young couples
Drop me a PM - far too many upgrades to list.... and then I'll have to remember all of them......

Paul
If you are do take on Track sure we can swap... I'm up in Yorkshire a fair bit but dont tend to venture over to the dark side too often :-)

whilst out cycling last night, passed about 3 or 4 fairly new 911's----- kept thinking of yr new purchase- and it made me very jealous.

I don't know much about modern 911's now....... although years ago was involved with mechanic's/garage trade on 924/944,914, 928's and early ish 911's......

but which ever car you've ended up- just wanted to say- nice one and I'm sure it'll be just the absolute business.

I'm sure in real world driving- not internet forum/magazine fantasy driving it'll be the dog's wotsits

Fangoria - how have you managed to spend £90k on a Scooby?! Is it made by NASA?!

I can tell you from experience it is very easy to spend £90k on a Scooby.

Decent gearbox - that'll be five grand please...

...Oh, I've broken it - that'll be a two grand please...

500bhp engine - that'll be five grand please (if yer lucky, could be ten)

...Oh, I've broken it - that'll be three grand please...

Decent track wheels and rubber - that'll be a grand please...

Oh, I need decent brakes and pads - that'll be two grand please...

I need decent suspension - that'll be two grand please...

...Oh the bushing needs sorted - that'll be a grand please...

...and the arbs and drop links - that'll be half a grand please...

...that new turbo looks pretty nifty - that'll be a grand and a half please

...but I need custom pipes - that'll be a grand please

Over ten years this adds up pretty quickly

Blimey - that's what I call "letting it get out of control"

Are the ceramic brakes standard on the GT3?

That pic above it lush - I like 911s SO much more than ridiculous looking Ferraris (599 excepted) and Lambos.

Only cars I like almost equally for looks are Mazzers.

Here's the phase 2 997 GT3 the boys from EVO magazine were testing last month and will feature in next months group test with Corvette ZR1, AM V12 Vantage and R8 V10. Had a chat with the guys and they were very complimentary. I passed John Hayman abusing it around the local roads and he looked like he was enjoying both the car and twisty roads.

As for the PCCB... I always thought they were great until I found they cost £12k to replace.

That Aston looks like it's got a mono-brow - like Liam Gallagher.

I think the £90k might have included the near £30k Stis were new back in the day of one year waiting lists for UK cars.

Not sure if Steve was including running costs - or just the costs spent on toys!

Actually I think I've spent over £100k now........ I might add up what I've spent over the last 10 years one day
Yes includes the cost of the car, was about £25k

Several Turbo's
Several exhausts

Wasted a small fortune trying to sort out a grunching/clicking/grinding noise on lock..... to CV Joints, full driveshafts, suspension checks, Bearings..... was the hubs in the end which wear after about 4-5 years and need replacing

A few engine rebuilds

Suspension
PPG Gearbox
ECU upgrade
Front mounted Intercooler

About 40 mapping sessions over the years (maybe more)

Suspension set ups

Lots of money wasted on Brakes........ Pagid Blues someone told me where good - ******* not and destroyed 2 sets of AP discs on Track with these (£500 a time)

I really do lose track of the cost

I spend on average about £6-£7k a year at the moment and do about 3k miles a year............

Yep
Conclusion was they would have prefered weight saving to power gain, couldnt agree more and another reason I didnt buy the R35....... you CANNOT have this as a trackday car without destroying tyres/brakes and putting a lot of strain on the mechanicals

Soon as I get the car I'll be on the Porsche sites seeing if I can get a swap for a day with a GT2, to see if I need to upgrade......... wife is already commenting on it! and I only just put the order in

Power makes you fast in a straight line, lightness makes you fast everywhere. Nissan even said the £30,000 ceramic brakes on the new Spec V will last 3000km on track

Quick Reply: Just ordered my first Porsche a '997.2 GT3'
