Admittedly mine isn't a pre production prototype. But I can assure you that all the road going stuff I build is assembled using nothing but good quality engine oil and not run in at all. No special build assembly lubes, potions or lotions. Almost all the oil used is 5w30 fully synthetic for both build an running wether it be petrol or diesel, na or turbo.
Alot of the myths you hear about engine building and running in are from days of old.
Technology has moved on both in parts quality and lubricants. I assure you that prototypes are given a life of absolute hell and are abused beyond what most people are ever capable of doing on the road.
Yes some fail and fail for good reason, calibration issues normally. But a build issue is a build issue and no amount of gentle running will change that. It will only delay it's showing, and normally for not very long lol.

Since breaking mine I have never felt so much "Subaru withdrawl" as bad LOL. Reading up on projects like this just gives me more passion to ensure that Im back behind the seat of one VERY soon. Although for my circumstances I think Im going to need to keep a "track going road car" rather than a "road going track car" especially if we have a bad winter ;~(

Frayz its great to hear that you've ironed out those niggly faults and are on the home straight now Tbh those faults although annoying were nothing compared to what you've acheived with this build, i've had more issues just changing brake pads lol

Indeed mate, my comments above do not mean to go out and rag the **** off it, it means just go drive it. Drive it like you would any other normal car.

Mixtures of load and revs and allow it to see some cylinder pressure.

"Touch wood" mine is alright

You are such a picture ***** Frayz

Although if you were really at the top of your game you'd have a plug in the centre console where you'd just plug a cat 5 cable in for the laptop to connect to the ECU instead of it lying on the floor like that

I can take a picture of mine if you wish LOL

Google is my friend. Cat 5 is an Ethernet cable correct? I've found a chassis mount female plug. But how much am I likely to use it I wonder? Guess I'll use it for logging? Not really PC literate Daz so maybe you can show me the ropes lol

Yep cat 5 is a data cable, there is also cat 6 but i wont go into detail lol.

I could get you a black cat 5 module frayz which is very small and you could locate it neatly somewhere, then all you do is wire that to your ecu and you can plug straight into the module via laptop etc

LOL I've opened a can of worms here I see

Basically I plugged one end of an ethernet cable into the back of the ECU and the other end into one side of one of these which was fitted nicely in the centre console. Then all you do when you want to connect a laptop in is to just plug an ethernet cable into the plug into the centre console and away you go. Very neat and all the wires are hidden. I'd take a picture but my car is in the paint shop changing colour yet again
