As you say after all my problems are sloved i will still get mine mapped soon as its all going well its off to litchfiled for a bit of work

Its not a weak engine it was just a very poor map by subaru

If Ian @ litchfiled is happy to turn the wick up to 355-360ish bhp then im happy to have the work done in fact i cannot wait

Yes, fuel consumption was something they needed to address when introducing a new model. My comment was intended to be taken with some humour but with an underlying truth.

Jim is your car BJ08THG? Silver on an 08 plate?
Looked at this car in late January before they fitted the PPP kit. The car had come from Subaru Uk as an Sti in Euro Premium spec with standard 300hp.
Test drove it when PPP was fitted in March but decided not to buy it because it wasnt a genuine 330s. Yes liked the BBs wheels to.
Had test driven Eo58GGK at Central when it was sick, it was flatter than my 170Tdi Audi!
Was offered a good deal on Centrals 09 but decided it was to much of a risk with all these engine problems.

It's the truth alright!
Having said that, if it's fixed, it's a great car, incredibly practical for something with that much potential. We have two teenage sons and an over sized 11 year old, and we all crammed in it, en famille, while I was checking out the new suspension, on the school run. As the eldest one is 15 years old, six foot three and 17.5 stone, it was a decent test! Plenty of room all round as it happens..

What fuel were you running on?
You shouldnt have had detonation problems on 97 ron.
http://www2.zhome.com:81/ZCMnL/PICS/...etonation.html

I get my best economy using the cruise control.
Sport, S/sport or Intelligent doesnt make any difference. When you switch the cruise control on, the MPG just seems to ramp up to an optimum, hence the 37.5 mpg at 60 mph.
Looks like the ECU is leaning the mixture down
I will be putting the sainsburies super unleaded in from now on

Default Engine

Done 1500 miles in my 330s so far mostly poodling but have given it a good clearout a few times and one proper thrash.
So far so good seems fine.

Cant see the point in taking a car to have it re-mapped by Litcho when you have a warranty??
I`m sure Litcho can do a much better job but surely your warranty will be invalid if he tweaks the ecu??
Dont Prodrive fit a custom mapped ecu to the 330s anyway??
Intriguing.....

To start with, anyone running unleaded in one of these will be asking for problems, someone said that Prodrive said you can use NUL for normal driving, that doesnt mean ragging it at 6k upwards, it means 3k and below.
To the OP, yep feel you have been hard done by there and you need to keep pushing this, just get as many people you know who have suffered a similar problem and pass it on to them, facts count in the end

Alan, such an under rated car, people dont like it due to its looks (and softer steering feel) but when has anyone bought a scoob for its looks? glad your enjoying yours

Arron, stunning car love the 330S, think Prodrive did a good job with the PPP, ones I have seen on the rolling road defy all the previous PPP figures that people see as being lower than the actual rating, 2 of these I saw both pushed out nearly 340bhp

Yeah I love it Tony.
Still not happy with the light steering so Iain will fix that I hope.
And I will probably get full T20 sussys on it at some point.
Pulls like a train tho.
Faster than a Porsche Boxster anyway...found that out last night ;-)

Interestingly my car had been run by the dealer on normal UL since new so I did plenty of miles in it on V Power before I started driving it harder.
It was backing of to start with but it pulls right round to the redline now ;-)

Whenever I`ve had any issues with past cars always been dealt with by IM very very well??
I had an engine let go in an STI7 and my P1 was put together by muppets!!
All got sorted eventually tho.
You boys wanna buy a £60k Range Rover!!
Your in for a shock I tell ya.
There are some proper **** dealers out there.
Souls of Olney been brilliant with this car.
Not technically great mind you ?????

Jim sorry to hear that.
We were lucky to see the car before they fitted PPP and badges. Car was first advertised as a STi UK for £19995 thats why I was interested even though the milage wasnt to low (about 12k), then they realised it was a Premium spec car and got greedy fitting PPP and put it up for £25995 dropping it to £24995. What did you pay?
Was close to buying but even the registration date was too early to be a 330s
Perhaps trading standards could help?
With engine problems as well, DEMAND a full refund!

This sounds really bad, but not forgetting the main title of the thread I thought that by having the PPP and the remap associated with it overcame the problem of the engine failure? Is this a main dealer that sold a Euro Spec (import) and stuck a 330s badge on the boot, they should be struck off!

Jim

Consumer Direct (Trading Standards) on this one. Your dealer is bang out of order and from what you have said the goods have been misrepresented. If it was me i would be looking for a replacement 330S or a re-negotiation on price of your current car and nothing less.

Good luck

Jim that's shocking... The dealer should have informed you it was a badged up premium spec STI PPP... HUGE difference in retail price imho.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 330s was released post 58 reg, so all 330s cars will be 58 onwards. (A warning to others)

I am sure Litchfields would be quite happy to sell me a new one, or has the exchange rate got that bad?

Good luck Jim
Remember it is the dealer and not Subaru. Bad news with the engine failure but it can happen to anyone. My BMW 330i went bang at 2 years old and 20k miles and hasn't missed a beat since.

Great thread this. I have just joined on the premise of buying a uk 300 and boy have my eyes opened. Is opinion that these problems should be cleared now with the new bottom end and update on the ECU. I will use the car for business use aswell so can't afford 4 months with no car.

I have also been offered a 1 owner (and i know him and how it drives it) 40,000 mile STi on a 04 plate for a good price any thoughts on their reliability as i am new to subaru and would it worth getting a custom map done on this ???

Thanks guys

On the new hatch to a certain date the software in the ecu was made to make the car run lean at top end of the revs, now the reflash is supposed to have fixed this problem, Mine is one of the early models that never had the reflash i opted for a custom map. The car has 16500 on the clock now and still going stong infact the only warrenty problem i have had was the alarm kept going off for no reason but thats fixed, so all in all I am very happy with mine. as the reflash is done and all the levels are kept an eye on they will be fine

As long

A UK300 mate was a 2001 car???? do you mean a 2008 STi with 300ps????

The only drama that happened to the 04 STi's was the shocks were made of chocolate,
