Can anyone confirm when the updated map was released? I bought an ex-demo on July 1st 2008. After reading stuff here I asked them to check for an update when I had my first service at the end of february this year. They returned the car to me and said no update was required. So now im wondering if mine got the update before I bought it. I have now done nearly 9000 miles so im guessing its ok. But can never be too careful i guess.

just keep pressing the trip reset button below the rev counter. Its cycles through ODO , Trip A, Trip B and rev. You then keep the button pressed until you reach the desired rpm

We bought a new 08 STi type UK about 10 months ago, I say new but it was the 2000 mile old demo they had, The reason we bought the demo was it had 4k's worth of extra kit lol, Anyway the story goes that after we had done another 2000 miles so 4000 in total I noticed that the oil wasn't even on the dip stick, So I complained to the dealer about this and was fobbed off with some gumph about oil usage.
Now I've built quite a few engine myself and I don't really know of any that where built properly and in good condition that will use 1.5 litre's of oil every 1200 miles, This went on for about 8 months with me keep asking for a compression test which the dealer kept refusing to do.
In the end after the first 10000 mile service with it still burning oil nearly as quickly as it does petrol the relented and did the test, Which confirmed what I had been saying for 8 month that the engine was indeed f*cked and was down on two pistons, They agreed to fit a short engine after at first trying to fob me off with two new pistons.
Anyway to cut a long story short they fitted the new block but couldn't get it to run properly for 6 weeks before I said enough was enough and rejected the car under the sales of goods act, They have now bought it back off us and cleared all the finance.
We're picking up a MK5 golf R32 later as a hopefully far more reliable replacement, This was our first and last Subaru I'm afraid.
In my opinion they actually sold us the car with an already f*cked engine which means it didn't even last 2000 miles.

I have also approached my local dealer with a view to them changing the rear arch protection to the new larger style as Subaru think its necessary to have this to prevent stone chips/warranty claims and so this would prevent a future paintwork claim....we will see what they say and will post up the answer.

You would think that this ecu update would be done when I just had my service at the end of february. After unanswered phone calls and then finally another visit to my dealer to try and get an answer as to whether they had updated my car. They rang me today and admitted they had missed this update at the service. Apparantly its different to normal updates and as its the first one they are doing it will take a few hours to fix???? Does this make any sense? Whats different if anything? Are my dealers just dumb?

looking at a euro spec Sti although brand new 20 miles aprox on clock the importer motor depot have had it for ''about 6 months'' so will this need a reflash ?
will the local Subau dealer be able to do it?
or will the engine fall to bits !!
as i only get a new car every few years and want this one to last to Im 50
or should i get it and take it to Andy F and get him to do it which is going to cost a bit as i will probaly need new exhaust as well ,then when the misses finds out the cost probably half a dozen dresses to keep her happy

It is very disconcerting when one reads about these kinds of issues, especially when you know just how reliable and amenable to running significantly more power than std these cars can be!

Ok, I was looking to get a new 330s which if I do will be one stood in a compound somewhere where it may have been sat for some time. How do I know when it was built and do Subaru / Dealer ensure all updates from when it was built to the present day are carried out before they hand the keys over?

The dealer should be able to plug the laptop in and see straight away if it has had the update.Also car has never run so good and engine is as quiet as a mouse,lets hope it stays that way.

330s don't need the update as they have Prodrive ECU's You'll find most Motor Depot euro cars need the update and Subaru UK will do it under warranty as they did with mine

I have been reading a few horror storys on iwsti.com and its quite shocking really that subaru can send out a car that isnt fit for purpose really.
so basically if you map the car warrenty is void which is quite understandable but is bespoke to your car and should run better than ever.
keep it standard and rev upto near the rev limit and the engine goes, subaru deem miss use and warrenty is in effect void might as well wipe your **** on the paperwork you cant win either way unless you drive like miss bloody daisy

Was told at the dealership a few weeks ago that i m are trying to get out of as many warranty claims as possible with ref to engine failure,even down to wrong brand of oil but same grade,just how low can they go.

wife was just in t+c yesterday for forster servicing and noticed the hatch sti being washed ?in preparation for sale!!

Bought a 2008 uk sti a couple of months ago all was going well until yesterday, the wife took it for a run the other day and said it was jerky though it was her imagination so just ignored her. Drove it yesterday and was shocked it seems to have developed a serious engine problem proper hesitation between 2500 and 3000 rpm feels like overfueling, then stuggles to get above 4000rpm with no boost at all and then the turbo kicks in at 5000rpm to the redline. Has used a bit of oil and coolant over the last month and has a slight rattle a low revs. Does any of this ring any bells with anybody who has had engine failure? going to contact the dealer tommorrow should i ask them to check anything in particular? only 10000 miles on the clock

Dealer cant take it until Friday they didnt seem to bother Ian Grieves in Falkirk going to keep driving it as normal and see how long it takes to blow its self apart and get delivered to them on a flat bed, not impressed i have a 6 week old child and only bought the new hatch as thought it would be reliable than my blobeye - how stupid was i
