I put in for the offer yesterday, got the confirmation e-mail today, went on-line this afternoon and booked the install for next Thursday morning.

ALL installs would be NEW boxes only.
if your lucky, the engineer may have a couple of different makes on board the van, but its highly unlikely as the uptake expected will mean engineer vanstock would be used pretty much daily, and engineers can only order generic codes on the hand held terminals, ergo will be send only what the lazy ar$e in the warehouse can be bothered to go pick. If you are an existing customer you KEEP your existing box even if its not fitted as a multi-room option (as in you can keep it, put it in the loft, sell it on ebay or whatever)...
Prohibitive costs for purchasing the technology (cameras etc) producing even buying pre HD recorded stuff direct from the States, lost prison break etc is why the business is keeping the £10 surcharge (lastest word from the horse is theres NO plans to shelve it )

Hope thats cleared up a few questions

I'm going to go for it.

Although, being an existing SKY+ customer, the £30 install charge is a bit of a rip off.

I wouldn't say the £30 is a rip off they have to cover for diesel, liabilty insurance also your dish could need lining up better also setting the box up for you.

Time= money

You lucky I paid £300 for my box through work when they first come out. I'd love to have one for £109

Shaun
Terrrible lip sync problems.

First box was samsung - would not come out of standby
2nd box - would not power on
3rd box - would not output over HDMI
4th box - stopped recording HD channels
5th box - would not power on
6th box - worked but louder than my PC with 6 case fans on full chat
7th box - stopped recording HD channels, when recording only allowed one channel to be viewed and when recording two channels you can here faint clicking sounds of the HD. However apart from the noise its currently behaving itself

And this is all since 4th January.

Oh, and when we had the HD box fitted and our + box put upstairs that too would not come out of standby so that was replaced too.

We are still on the 7th - all recons apart from the Samsung. No point complaining to engineer becase its not his fault and he's a local bouncer so best to keep him sweet and he likes my cat

One question, when I last phoned up Sky to change to the basic package, they said I could change packages once a month whilst in contract, so could I upgrade to HD, then the next month downgrade again?

When it says standard set up what does that include ? Is it just plugging the box into TV or does it include cabling & putting new dish up.

Our dish is falling to bits now, We have had it since sky digital 1st came out. The bracket the dish is on is the original one from about 20 years ago, so could do with a new 1.

Will they put a new dish & bracket up or will that cost us more ?.

During one of the many visits from the engineer he replaced the dish FOC. We didn't ask him to so I guess they will do it FOC.

I tried to get our Multiroom changed to Lite today and was put through to the right place and put on hold and finally gave up 10 minutes later

Not sure about your case but i was a new customer and it covered the full installation. New dish and bracket, running the cable, installing a setting up the box.

My dad's just gone to sky. Got a cracking deal. Sky HD, Sky + for other room, broadband, phone line and the full HD package of programs (ever channel) + multiroom for just over £50 a month. £75 for the boxes.

Yeah I got the same email, what a joke. They've been trying to sell me this for over a year now, when I finally say yes they say "oh no sorry, you can't have it".

I think i'll make enquiries about Virgin cable instead, or just buy a stack of blu-ray disks form Play.com

I've been following a long thread on the DigitalSpy website about install dates.

Seems a lot of people get e-mails quoting 3-4 months. Many of them have had 2 or 3 e-mails since (after a week or so), dropping the estimated install to 4-5 weeks, some have even got a confirmed date.

Edit - Woohoo, hit 500 posts in under 10 years. Here's to 1000 in 2019.

Dave.

Its a standard text/email.

I ordered on the 31/01, got a text stating completion in around 2 months.
I had HD installed on Friday.
I know someone else with similar dates to me.
Seems to be a turnaround of 2 - 3 weeks.

Installer told me that they charge SKY £115 for installlation when HD is replacing SKY+.

Installer also has heard internally that SKY will dump the monthly subscription for HD later this year?
Bonus if it happens, I personally doubt it though.

Shaun

Theres been much mention of the HD sub being dropped. I had heard it would be April.

I've also heard that you can't have multiroom Lite untill you've had both multiroom for over 12 months - is this correct?

I did a yell.com and clicked on this site here. Their online booking gave me any installation dates from the 23rd Feb for Sky HD and at the same prices as Sky.

Absolute rip off still, until it's a free box and no extra per month with some decent HD channels that don't cost extra money I wouldn't touch it.
Freesat box still wins hands down at the moment.
