I understand and agree, but this was from nothing .. I want to make the connection as to what upset her so it can be avoided.. or corrected. I mean she has shown her teeth when play fighting with me, but this was different... I'd like to understand what caused it ..

 

Could be still a bit inbalanced from her season, does throw some dogs a bit.
My point about her bothering with other dogs was that, until now she has never bothered. Always pays to expect the unexpected, as I have learnt.

Glad that she was still paying attention to command all the same though. Which would also indicate that she was not being aggressive as such, just putting on a show.

If you saw Tuvaaq playing with Aana you would think he was about to rip her throat out. Quite a scary sight watching him "play", and her come to think of it.

 

Well as some people have said in the thread, dogs are just like that.

I have seen dogs get on for years and then one day they stop getting on, in quite a violent way........

They are animals, they are just different.

 

Different in what way mate, I think thats the bit thats not coming across. Might help to know, more noise, tried to bite etc ?

 

Possibly .. but why this particular pup ? all other dogs get ignored even when they try to play ...

I guess I'm reading to much into it .. but I just like to understand the dog.. she responds to recall excellently and has not been given the chance to snap at other dogs .. as I say this was a control situation.. strange

 

I don't know .. her back was arched and she had a hump .. She sort of liked like a startled cat .. were as when she fights with me, she goes all in lol ... Maybe she was just scared ...

She didnt bite, he mouthed at it .. like she was warning it ..

Sounds like an off day to me mate. She is reaching being an adult now, so they start to set ground rules so to speak. Try not to think too much about it, just keep an eye on her for any behaviour patterns emerging.

Like has been said, they are dogs at the end of the day, they dont rationalise, just react.

Fair enough .. the more I know the better I can be prepared .. I'd rather not have to keep her away for other dogs if it can be helped but obviously I have to make sure she's safe ..

Im sure she will let you know if she does not want to be around other dogs. Or certain dogs as the case may be.
Now Tuvaaq is maturing its safer just to keep him away from other dogs, bitches he is "ok" with.

 

one of my chihuahuas bites my daughter if she wants to. if she was a bigger dog she would have been destroyed long ago. luckily she is under 3lb and cant do any damage to my daughters hand but she want to.

Your chuhuahua shouldn't be biting anyone, Sara, whether she wants to or not. What if she bites a baby for example?

 

my daughter wont stop irritating her. its the only way she can defend herself. if she was biting for no reason then it would be different

if anyone with a child comes round then i crate her. she has always been like this, the other one will lick you to death

i did put myself out there a bit with my post but i do realise the implications if my dog harmed a small person. luckily it is only my daughter that she bites though she does growl at other kids if they want to touch her.

Yeah Central park ! I've meet him a few times since the Dog was tiny .. we were chatting the other day about the way people treat his dog .. its **** really cause hes lovely !

Yeah the dogs great, he likes chewing my clothes for some reason though!! Its the bad press that the dogs have got thats the problem, shame as hes as daft as a brush!! I'm sure they'll get on in the end (the dogs that is!! ) I'm after an English Bull Terrier but that'll have to wait till next year, just have to make do with the wifes Westie (whos even dafter *is that a word??*) for now!!

Our GSD shows aggression to Border collies..

He just hates them,and he has never had a bad exerience with one that we know of..
He is now 11 yrs old and its been a continued theme throughout his life..

As said before,i just put him on the lead if i see any other dogs.. It would be great if all dogs would socialise,but they wont,just like humans.

He is a big lad at 55kg so he is physically strong,as well as headstrong with it..

The border collie thing and barking at the door being knocked are the 2 things he has never "grown out of"..

Wouldnt swap him for anything though..

 

Sounds like a right lump Tuv is heading that way. Just shy of 50kg now and still filling out. Right little wimp at the mo though Aana puts him in his place regularly.
He just stands proud when he sees other dogs now, where Aana wants a piece of them (verbally anyway) I dont think she would actually engage, but not about to find out.

 

My "bitch" is like that with submissive females, just a streak of bully underneath.

And you can't compare a dog vs dog incident with a dog vs kid one, mine all love kids and have never shown any aggression towards them. But other dogs.... "She" hates any submissive females, My old fella hates Yorkshire Terriers, Dylan just hates adult males, with walking sticks and (non-racist) Asians.... but he is a rescue dog who had SERIOUS aggression issues till I ironed them out !

Ive got a japanese akita, he's bitten 2 of my girlfriends, now ex !, couple of mates, 3 dogs, one being a pain in the **** staff, and had a go at the postman. I still dont reckon he's agressive ! :-) Just mis understood. :-)

Some breeds just dont get on with other breeds, simple as. One thing for sure, is that you need to show her who's the top dog, so if she goes for you, you need to sort her out.

My dog is 9, but when he was 2, we had this `talk`, and I showed him who's boss.

Agression ? huh, jesus ! a bit of teeth and a few barks and suddenly the dog is agresssive ! Perhaps you should of got a cat.

As the responsible dog owners will tell you any sign of aggression is to be taken seriously .. if my dog was like this all the time it would not be something to mention ..


Your Akita need putting down if it's bitten people .. such a powerful dog .. apparently in the wrong hands is just plain stupid ...

As for a talk .. anyone with any ability to train a dog doesn't need to (what I assume from your "") hit their dog.

If my dog catches me off guard when shes on the lead, she could easily break free of my grasp .. if I'm aware of my surrounds and know how my dog reacts I'm better suited to deal with it !

I find it amazing that your think your dog biting people is acceptable..If he was to get out or escape his lead and bite a small childs face,would that be acceptable too?

A big dog can do life changing damage.There ownership and training should be taken seriously,as should there socialisation with other dogs and humans..

By letting your dog know whos boss,i take it you took to beating or hitting him ?? Totally wrong,but hey,i guess it works for you,so you find it acceptable.

Hope you aint got any kids to show "who's the boss"..
