Everyone misses the 'last post' button, but I always find the 'first new post' button much more useful, and that still works. It takes you to the first post made since you last visited that thread allowing you to read on from where you left off. It's to the left of the thread title and looks like.... Can't say I ever used the one everyone's moaning about much.

Things will take time to sort , But it's all heading in the right direction now under it's new leadership
Why is it needed though? Surely when you go back to a thread you want to read the last unread post. Else you've got to scroll back up to find where you was last visit.
