Stilover, are you part-exing the Sti or are you selling it privately? Would be interested to hear what sort of deal you got. PM me if you like.
I'm looking at a change in the next few months. Quite keen on the 123d but not dismissed the Scirocco.

Going to try and sell privately. I'm unsure when to do it though. Too early and I'll have to go out and buy a heap of sh*te to drive around in (risking breaking down everywhere). Too late and I could be stuck with it. Anticipated delivery of new car = Late September / early October.

Might have to Part-Ex if I can't sell it. Haven't discussed Part-ex`ing with Rick........... yet. He may not want it.

Don't want to be in the situation of driving round Subaru dealers trying to offload it.

I had a choice of a few cars. Audi S3, Focus RS. Debated with getting a Diesel too. Golf or Audi A3 TDI 170. Debated about waiting till next year for the Golf R36.

End of the day the Focus RS wasn't 4WD, the Audi S3 it fast, but almost as thirsty as the Scoob, and has been reported that although fast it can be quite dull to drive. Golf R36 = Will be thirsty.

Couldn't bring myself at the end of the day to buy an Oil burner. The Scirocco was the ideal car in a way. From seeing the concept pics I knew it would be a good looking car. It's still reasonably quite. Combined mpg = 37mpg. Should hold it's value well. First few years there won't be many on the roads. I think I've specced it well so I've got leather and a decent sound system.
All factors considered I believe I've made the right choice. Yes I'll miss 300BHP and 4WD, but just got a new G/Friend who doesn't drive (Typical ) so I'm driving everywhere (at 22-23mpg)

Going to put it up for £12,750. See what happens.

If I get the Scirocco before you've decided on what car to get, I'm quite happy to meet with you to see my car.

£5 and I'll let you sit in it.

You'll give me £5 to sit in it? Call it £10 and you can take a picture!

I'm going to the British Motorshow next week so hopefully my mind will be made up then. I had a 123d for the day recently and loved it, performance and economy, the looks aren't great though. BMW dealer is desperate to do a deal but the part ex price is way off yet.

I've been loyal to the Subaru brand now since 1995 when I got my first Turbo (9 month wait!) I even like the new car, had a demonstrator for 3 days but just don't want the expense and poor residuals.

Including the 123d coupe? Not seen one on the road, I could understand the others. It's only one of a few that I'm considering. Are you still able to get un registered Edition 30's?

I know VW is planning an R version of the Scirocco. Would have thought it'd be the R36 version though.

Doubt it would be £24k though. I'd bet the Golf R36 with a few options will be pushing £30k.

2010-2011 for an R36 Scirocco will work out perfectly for me.

Too bloody true - had it in my A3 (same system) and while it was OK, it's still a blinking auto that you are telling to change gear. Where's the finesse of mastering the clutch and gear shift. And with a manual, I'm always in the gear I want.

DSG - great technology but I am and will always be a manual boy.

Approx 31,600 miles

Prodrive PFF7 Alloys (Gold)
Prodrive Spring Kit
6 stack CD player in boot

£12,500.
Included in sale. Original 17" wheels with 2.5 month worn Bridgestone RE070 tyres & original springs.
Nice looking motor and good luck with the purchase. However couple of points, its not a coupé as VW keep telling us, its a harch back, and you must be mad letting your STI go for that price.

Just my opinion of course

I honestly think I'll struggle to sell it at that price. Nothing is selling ATM, especially very thirsty cars like the Subaru.

Putting it on Pistonheads this week (hopefully Tuesday) and see what responce I get. Will stick it on for £12,750.

TBH if someone offered me £12,500 for it, i'd snap their hand off.

If anyone knows someone looking for an STI ............

yeah but the difference is that in a manual it will only change up when you want it to. Same with the smg box out of the bmws (the downside is its quite jerky compared to the dsg)

the dsg box acts as an auto gearbox.

Just returned from my VW dealer where I had my Golf V R32 serviced.
It has been confirmed to them that late next year, together with the Golf VI R36, will also be released the Scirocco R36. Both around 300hp, 4wd, 7speed DSG ... I get the feeling that the main difference will be the looks and a couple of doors more available for the Golf...
From Jan they will take deposits as both cars will have limited allocations.

That's going to be stupid money. At the moment the Scirocco is sensibly priced, even if you dabble with the ever-expensive German options list. 300bhp, 4wd and 7 Speed DSG is going to be every penny of £30k and probably a fair bit more. You're going to have to really want one of those because the Audi TT is going to look awfully tempting next to it and you'll also be able to get very low mileage Z4M Coupes and Boxsters.

Would have thought the R version wouldn't be out for 18-24 months in the Scirocco to allow GT versions to be bought, owned, then traded in for the R36............... just as I'd planned to do (if the Golf R36 got good reviews).

This could be a kick in the teeth to those who are buiying a Scirocco early, as just months after buying my new car, I'll have to put a deposit down on another.

You sure the dealer is correct?

Thought the Golf was out spring/summer next year anyway?

Hi, they said "late next year" (as I wrote) so that would be .... last quarter of 2009? That makes it about 16 months away, which is usually about right between the release of "base" models and the top of the range; in marketing terms by then mags etc won't be talking about the Scirocco anymore, so perfect timing for the R.

Anyway they seemed pretty certain about it

I love my Golf V R32 so in spring 2010 will most probably change it with the R36, not sure yet if Golf or Scirocco.

With the greatest respect intended, I would like to mention a couple of things. . . .

1. The 7 speed box won't work currently with the R32/R36 engine (theres too much torque for the box) and currently is only fitted to 1.4 TSI's with less than 200lb/ft torque (And is on back order until quarter1 2009!) so 7 speed is pure conjecture at this point!

2. The R36 WAS supposed to be a run-out of the Mk5, but the engine won't physically fit under the bonnet because of the stronger engine mount (Mounts 10mm higher) because it (the 3.6) weighs more than the 3.2, so it has been shelved (R32 has it's battery in the boot because theres no room under the bonnet!) and according to VW, they want to offer a manual version (and again, the current manual box can't handle the power, that's why R36 Passat's are DSG-ONLY)

3. I took a deposit over a year ago for a Mk5 R36. I have now refunded this because it's not going to happen. ANYBODY can take a deposit, it doesn't mean the car will actually ever get built. . . . It only means that you get a receipt. . . . and a refund later on!

4. New Golf is expected Summer 2009, and GTI later that year with R version 2010 (TBC).

The R32 will no longer be produced in Mk5, also the Edition 30 has been withdrawn and replaced with the Pirelli. Production for Mk5 is confirmed up until at least March 2009 so the Mk6 won't even enter production until 3 months after that, then it'll hit europe 2-3 months before us.

I think that the dealer in question is MORE THAN LIKELY feeding you information that is not from VW, because they are (deliberately) shy with this info.

They DON'T you waiting for the Mk6, they want to sell to you NOW!

My info is based on technical fact, as well as info from VW.

No actually if you read what I wrote I am talking about the MkVI and the 7 speed DSG which will come with it. R36 Golf (MkVI I repeat) according to them expected late next year, and also Scirocco R36 around the same time.

They don't want to sell me anything now .... .... if (again) you read more carefully what I wrote I have a one year old MkV R32 (12000 miles, just loosened up basically ), they know I ain't changing for a while longer
