You need a 75w-90 for the gearbox and diff.

Thank tim im in the middle of doing my order at the moment. Ive been looking around on the forum and just wanted to confirm the quantitys.

I believe the:
- engine is 4.5l
- gearbox is 3l
- diffs are a litre each

Is this correct?

Yes, that's it (diff takes 0.8L, but you'd need to buy a litre anyway).

I guess you've read the same product data sheets as I have read where Edge and Magnatec of the same viscosity are identical in every way.

Which is highly odd, as for example teh data sheets for GTX 10w-40 and Magnatec 10w-40 which are very similar oils does differ slightly in its physical specification (as you'd expect). Which goes hand in hand with the theory that Magnatec is GTX with a bit of "something" added as they are both group III oils.

But with Edge and Magnetec 5w-40, they appear to be identical. And I'm sure if one was group III and the other Group IV their physical properties should clearly differ. Unless of course there is a clerical/print error.

No disrespect to Tim over this, he's just the retailer so he can only rely on what information he is given which puts hiim in a awkward position. This is something to do with Castrol's marketing/packaging practices. I'm sure you are thinking what I'm thinking, but I don't want to say anything until I know for a fact.

Hi,

My mechanic is struggling to find out what Diff oil needs to go into my scooby as part of its service?

My car is a 53 plate WRX Impreza, not sure if you will need to know about mods for diff oil but running at 260bhp, been mapped, sti topmount, bov, full decat.

Does the scooby take 2 different types, for front and back? & would you say diff oil is vital to change?

Dear Oilman, I just bought 6 liters of Millers CFS 5w40 for my blobeye 2004 WRX, 225hp, standard spec, which has around 60k miles and which I bought second hand a few months ago. Will do the oil change next week.
I'd like to know how often do you recommend to change the oil, I use the car daily, with some fast driving on twisty hill roads, no track at all.

Maximum I would go is 10,000 miles or once a year, what ever comes first. I am sure many are doing it more often than that though.

The diff needs a SAE90 LSD oil, like the Fuchs Titan Race Gear 90LS, Shell TS90, Castrol Axle Z or Motul 90PA.

Is the same oil needed for the gearbox and diff?

Also grade recommendation for a 2002 JDM STI running 360bhp, with potential to go up to 420bhp Used to use Motul 300 on my previous Scooby but cant remember if it was 5w40, 10w40 or 10w50!!

Hi

With the DCCD cars, you need different oils for the gearbox and diff, with the others a 75w-90 GL5 oil is suitable for both.

With 420bhp, I would think you'd go for a 10w-50 or 15w-50, with the 360bhp, a good 5w-40 would be fine unless it gets a lot of track time.

Got a 1999 impreza turbo and fitting a new engine and 6 speed non dccd box soon. The engine is a 2.1 cdb stroker with Jdm big port heads. Have millers nano 10w50/60 can't remember which for everyday but what oil to use for the run in ? Oh will have a sc50 billet turbo looking for 400/450bhp. Also any recommends on gearbox and other oils I will need to put in.

I recently bought an 03 JDM STi (DCCD) running approx 360bhp....for piece of mind, I'm getting a full fluids change.

I did an order with you a few weeks back so have the following:

Millers CFS 10w-40 Competition Full Synthetic Engine Oil - 10 Litres
Millers CRX LS 75w-90 NT Competition full synthetic transmission oil - 1 Litre
Millers Racing Brake Fluid 300 Plus - 2 x 500ml

1. I obviously have enough engine oil, do I have enough of the others?
2. What other oils do I need / suggestions please (Millers is pref)
3. Coolant - Millers Alpine? ...how many litres?
4. Anything else?

Hi

A litre of the CRX LS NT will do the diff.

If you want to do the gearbox, I'd go for the Motul Gear 300, but the Millers CRX NT should also be fine. You'll need 4.1L.

The Millers Alpine is ideal and you need 7.7L of coolant at 50%, so you'd need 4L of that.
