the purple bashed up corsa would have been a chap called gaz, running about 350bhp with gas last time i read the spec, i watched him run that 12

also at last years totb, nic barnes corsa turbo running 442bhp was awesome, hes just had it rebuilt and it ran 336bhp at 0.8 bar on an engine with potential to handle 2.0 bar of boost. chunky munky, that would, give you a run for your money

i have saw this car last year at PVS

a very very good sleeper it even had steelies on when i saw it

its running a MK3 astra GSI Red top engine on throttle bodies IIRC

vauxhalls do seen to have a bit of a bad image but i have had my astra for 4.5 years and its a great little car
cheap to run etc, well built infact it has less rattles than my subaru, comfy and cheap to run
its just no where near as fun or involving to drive as the subaru (guess for some people that makes it a bad car)

Why is it that threads comparing the performance of a scooby to A.N.other car always start out right, but always end up about little cars with non-standard bits that can thrash anything that moves...on "private roads". There is ALWAYS going to be something faster out there - no-one's doubting they exist. There will always be some loony building cars with P to W ratio figures that will embarass any of us.
This thread was about Vectra VRXs, and it was even being nice about them as a reminder.

I watched a a standard VXR Astra & Chipped VXR Astra going round goodwood a few weeks ago. (Sprint day)

The standard VXR was quick by any standard, the Chipped variant was a monster!!!!!!

It tore up the start finish straight like a demon with a right banshee howl from the zorst

and it was bl**dy quick!!!

A grey GSI Nova from scotland owned by 2 brothers! Can't remember their names but I knew them back in the day!!
Was at Santa Pod dragstrip IIRC?

Rich, you are right .

Mikkel was spot on with the anti people thread stuff.

For the record, no one is rubbishing VXR'S.

The point of this thread is>>>>>>>>>>>>>>I thought they would be quicker.

I was pleasantly surprised.

That is it really, no hidden agenda, just a straight observation really.

Regards.

It's called banter mate. Nought wrong with a bit of discussion without handbags at the ready. We all have different opinions which may or may nor be equally valid. For the record if you endow a wheelbarrow with a favourable power to weight ratio it would leave lots things for dead including Novas and Imprezas.

the vxr8 is a fantastic car
i personally like the tiptronic auto, it was begging for paddle shift
and i thought was as fast as anything on the day at oulton park, the pther car that impressed was the vectra vxr
my mate that has owned 3 audi TT's , 2 S3's , mini cooperS, porsche 996, STI 8 JDM , lotus exigeS (i caught the ring taxi in it!!!!) was also impressed with the vectra!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this man was NOT trying, i said to many i'd like to chase a subaru round oulton park in a vectra vxr, it would embarrass many a subaru and driver, don't over estimate your car!!!!!, technology has moved on quickly , these cars are fast(perhaps in the right hands) and are production cars!!!!!!

the VXR8 is a fantastic car, it deffo is missing 2 things? noisier exhaust and paddleshift , and I THINK it handles
but you can get upgrades!!!, a supercharger(on a 6.0l v8) and bigger brakes etc addictive and i'd love to give a subaru a good lesson in one

i own a 98 classic with 2.5 , gems ecu, coilovers, polybushed, whitelined ,etc
running a TRUE, 330bhp and similar torq,
it will out drag a BMW M3 csl upto 150ish mph and will spin all 4 wheels in the wet setting off from lights in 1st and 2nd gear with the torq,

its not my run about, i have it sat about for trackdays and fun

I think the car in question was the vectra vxr not the vxr8? They are two totally different cars that are worlds apart.

so why did it have a carbon roof ?
and when i spoke to the driver, and said " not bad for a scruffy old subaru" and told him the bhp, he was puzzled and replied " i have a 22b with 320bhp that can't do that "
i didn't reply, because i knew the answer

these forums are full of complete ****
people claimed bhp figures are usually way out, when i went to buy my car i was told a lot more bhp, and it seems to reel in 360bhp newage STI's on straights around tracks, the bmw M3 pulled along side me on a duel carriageway at lights and begged me to challenge and lost!!! so take it anyway you want ,

and i'd still love to take most of you on around a track in a poxy vectra VXR and make fun of you in your moded subaru's, i don't think it would difficult,

I stand corrected, I didn't realise your hearses were that quick lads

Reading up on it, like the OP, I thought the Vectra VXRs were quicker TBH. Saw some quick ones today at croft but that probably doesn't count

They have a carbon fibre roof to save weight. And make the car stiffer! Was the car in question a vxr vectra, a vxr8 or your subaru with 330bhp with similar torque. Now I'm confused?

I can vouch for Howards car (51st state) as i've been in it and it is indeed a very rapid Scoob.

Then start a thread asking for invites to a track day that you are paying for and put your money where you mouth is. "Most of us" use our car daily for what it is designed for - being driven on ****ty roads negotiating around other ****ty drivers, and would relish the chance to be taught a lesson in a proper environment by a VXR (8 lol).

They can be yeah...not all though...there's a non-turbo one just like the Impreza.
We look at the term "hearse" as a term of endearment by the way

If it's so fast, no disrespect which I fully believe it is why does he want to teach modified scoobies a lesson in his vxr? Does this seem an unusual question to ask?

I'm not trying to stir anything on here but i really wouldn't start making bets on who is the quickest round a track. because i know who my money would be on. i'm not going into it any more and i'll leave it at that.
