The L200's drive alot better than the Navara. Take both out for a test drive, you'll know what I'm talking about instantly.
I brought one a couple of years ago, it has had some problems, but they've always been put right without to much inconvienence.
If I was you, I'd buy the one I liked.

I have a Ford Thunder on a 57 plate currently on 12k never had a problem, work play and towing, cant fault it at all.
Prior to that I had an 06 plate wildtrack, pre face lift version and run up 15k on that without issue. This did/does not compare to the new totally revised Thunder though with the 2.5 transit engine in.
To be honest just about to get my third a Ford 3.0l Wildtrack, more fancy bits, plus more more torque with the 3l

Thing is, if you are going to have rear seat passengers for any length of time then the L200 has far better angled seats (in lleu of rear bed length) for comfort.
And if you're going to actually use it off road (gasp) then the L200 is pretty damn fine
mine is the one in the middle of pic. 1

I can't fault the Ford Thunder, the seats are leather and are very comfortable, and the steering is nicely weighted, though the ABS is a little sensitive. I get out of the truck after a long drive still feeling nice and fresh, where as with the Hilux, it gave me back ache, but that was a 53 plate and the base model, with nice rubber flooring instead of carpet

im a toyota fan! though i currently run a isuzu, i think you'll find the service costs of the toyota significantly lower, i ran a hi ace van for 72000 miles used 3 sets of tyres 1 set of front pads and thats it!! get your self a set of uniroyal rally tyres and you'll have no probs with the rear end coming round.
bottom line is they are just so reliable! thats why they are so popular in third world countries and they are very durable, and they hold there value! when i sold mine i was getting calls for weeks and the first person to see it bought it!
the isuzu is also a cracking truck don't think you'll go far wrong with either. i would'nt have the ford for free as i've had nothing but bad experiences with ford, and the value of them falls almost as fast as an alfa

If you don't need quite the hauling capability then you could go for the cheaper 1500 model and opt for a Hemi 5.7 V8. Plenty of power and suitable for LPG which would make it cheaper to run than any diesel truck available over here.
Available as normal cab, quad cab, swb and lwb, V6, V8 and diesel, 2wd & 4wd.
I seriously can't think of any reason to buy on of the under powered offerings available in the UK.

My dad's had the Navara Outlaw, new shape, was a fantastic car, good power/speed, really big on the road though, but couldn't fault the reliability.
Now has the L200 Diamond top spec with all the extra's and he says the Navara was a much beter car, much faster and far more reliable, the L200 had to have the ECU replaced as it went crazy twice, wouldn't recommend it, although the cab is maybe nicer, having said that he went for a higher spec in the L200

My vote would go for a Dodge Ram 2500 with a 5.9 litre Cummins diesel engine. Available with a 6 speed manual or 4 speed auto. 2003 models saw a face lift and more power. 345bhp and 600lb ft stock and still fully capable of 22mpg+

Thanks for your thought, but I really couldn't have one of those as a regular drive. I think my Mrs would refuse to have it on our drive.
Navara and Isuzu shortlisted at the moment.

Had two Navara's. Great bits of kits. driven over 200k between them and no problems other than a door lock.
Test drove the Toyota, it was not up to the standard of the Navara in any respect. Check out the 4x4 mags. The Navara wins almost all awards. New shape is not as fun to drive as the tail happy version before it
Take a test drive and see which one you like.
If you want a Toyota I suggest you check out Top Gear Arctic challenge

I know a few people who had nevaras (03/04 models) and had nothing but trouble with them. I actually know two friends who had nevaras which blew up literally with less than 60,000 miles on them, one was scrapped and the other replaced the bottom end of the engine costing £3k .
I would go Toyota every time, good old reliable jap-scrap ....i will guarantee you wont be troopsing into the dealers every week if you buy a hilux pickup. The invincible models are very well spec'd and are a lovely jeep to drive too

Ah, the good old Toyota Hilux.
Or, as we in the off-road fraternity call it, the Toyota Rollux
