haha well i went from a '95 1.1 fiesta, flat out the worst car i have ever driven from a "driver's" point of view to a JDM classic WRX... that was only couple months back or so. jesus it felt fast like a computer game or something! its all relative tho, and as i have got used to it it feels quick rather then "wow!!", although i still love 2nd gear acceleration... but the days of one literage are still pretty fresh in my mind

 

would have to agree with this. anything doing 0-100 in 10 or less is going to feel fast. problem is you get used to it all to quickly. the race for more power(excuse the pun) now becomes set against the law of deminishing returns. to get a car to go more reliably over and over again (this is thing here, the car has to be reliable. that why the fq400 is £50K, it comes with a 3year misti warranty) requires you to dig deep into your pockets. chasing those extra tenths on the drag track can be very very expensive, i know (my last race was SSO 2007). you have to draw the line in the sand and say no more, i am happy with what i got and actually go out and ENJOY your car. while it has been laying up for a year in the garage i haven't enjoyed my subaru, i want it back so bad, but you gotta save the pennies to get things fixed (and believe me with big power comes big responsibility). thing tend to break more readily if they are are either not installed correctly or are not a quality product.

i have been very very lucky, i have only lunched one engine (at Jurby in the IOM, the last race of the fookin day too). don't do what i did, revved out in fourth and instead of changing up to 5th, yes, you guessed it i changed into 3rd in all the excitement. threw a leg outta bed. i was gutted, but take a look at the tuner cars, they seem to be always breaking summat, whether it's gearboxes, propshafts, half shafts, bigends or melting pistons. they are in a position to throw £10K at the car to get it fixed, i on the other hand am not.

drive the car to an event, race it all day, drive it home. that's the acid test in my book. too many highly strung dedicated drag cars at these events now, but to be truthful that is what people want to see, not a bog standard subaru do a 14.5 second quarter. bring back the days when these events where for fully trimmed up ROAD going cars. That was the original thought behind TOTB and SSO, but i suppose things evolve and peoples tastes change. the event organiser would be committing financial suicide if they didn't go with the flow and give people what they want.

banny seriously i don't know. i know nothing about mechanicals, i just drive the thing. i go with what my friend recommends. he tests and maps the car i just pay him the money. it's white and fast and has a big OMA sticker on the side if thats any good to you.

 

I do remember seeing it as SSO2207 and thinking that car dont half shift, think you were running alongside a legacy.

yes the legacy RS is my fiends car. that's a fast article too. yes @ SSO 2007 i blew a head gasket about 50 yards before the quarter mile. still manage to coast over the line in 11.2 @ 120 mph though. good enough for 6th or 7th last year if you take Andy F out of the equation (he was at least 1 second quicker than the fastest car in his stripped out blue car)

I've noticed that anything with a really good bhp/weight ratio feels quick -Preferably if it's low down too.
My Impreza which is 260bhp hasn't felt as savage as a 200bhp Renault 5 Turbo or a 180bhp Westfield that I've been in although in reality I know there isn't much in it.
It is all relative, as when I first bought my Impreza it felt rapid and now I've got used to it. However, after driving my gf's 1.4 rover for a week or so the Subaru now feels like I have had a 400bhp engine transplant... weird

 

I just wanna add to this,

Zak Ramage, owner of Mocom Racing here in Essex is racing his daily drive in the club Ta this year. The car gets driven to and from events and has full road trim a mere 430 ish BHP and is driven to and from work daily... hell the damn thing even has a baby seat in the back that doesnt even get removed for TA events.

He drove all the way to Knockhill last weekend and put in a stonking 58 second lap. Fast enough for the finals and to beat much more powerful and lighter cars out there.

This is what club challenge is all about.

Stripped out stuff should be in the Pro class IMO.

I entered my power figures in a rolling road converter and came up with these figures below, But on the strip I can beat all those times

0 - 60 (Secs) : 3.45
0 - 100 (Secs) : 8.45
60 - 100 (Secs) : 4.99
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 12.01

 

If you want the sensation of "fast" Buy a motorbike. I have a Honda CB600 Hornet with a mere 95bhp. My scoob has about 260bhp. The scoob wouldnt get a look in! With nothing but i lid on your head and a needle showing 13000+ rpm that FEELS fast!

A few weeks ago a had a run on a ZX9R Kawasaki. Lofting the front wheel pretty effortlessly in 3rd gear at about 90-100mph. The speedo flies round as quick as most rev counters. 110-120-130mph as fast as you can count! Thats FAST!

 

i have both a scooby for weekend driving and a leon tdi for work , the cost of petrol doesnt bother me that much as i have had my scooby 4 months now and only covered 350 miles and that included a trip from leicester to chesterfield to get my graphics done ...

the problem is the cost of diesel , i do in it 20k a year so at the min its costing me another 30-40 quid a month to run ... if it carrys on then
i would rather sell my tdi and buy a moped than sell my scooby ..

but its the same old story , the cost of running a second car , or just the scooby ... personnally i think i would be better off just running the scooby , when you take in to account , 2 x car tax, m.o.t, running costs etc etc ...

I drove an 06 WRX seemed fkin fast (from my saab 9-3 TD) then drove 06 STI seemed fkin fast made WRX seem ordinary ... bought hawkeye sti seemed fkin fast .... now seems quite fast... friends get in said hawkeye seems fkin fast.... missus gets out of 1.25 Fiesta zetec into hawkeye .... tells me to slow down far to fkin fast.

All depends on what you are used to. I was driving the other day and it dawned on me that I had just overtaken about 15 cars (duel carriageway) off a roundabout with no effort at all ..... FKIN FAST

 

I keep thinking my 400bhp Type R isnt that quick, until i drive our S3 again or another normal car, its just what you get used to.

 

That can't be the new 911 turbo you're talking about.

 

I've recently owned (and sold) :

Lotus Exige S (220bhp and 4.1s 0-60)
Audi RS4 (414bhp and 4.4s 0-60)

and I promise you that neither of them felt any faster than my scoob, up to about 100 mph (when the RS4 would start to pull away IMO).

I think that all cars feel much faster from the passenger seat to be honest.

In a scoob I don't think you need more than 300-350bhp if you are on the right road (i was in North Wales the weekend just past and had an absolute blast as I drove home on small roads at about 2am).

Oh - and being a passenger in ANY CAR being driven by my grannie is plenty fast enough thankyou very much
