Yes the 4D56 is still used,as i said earlier, the basic engine design is early 1980's..
Its ridiculous that it still in the L200,even though its been updated.

The L200 should at least have had the 4M40 fitted, that is a very reliable unit..

Dont get me wrong here fella's..Im a big big fan of Mitzys in all there forms..But the truth has to be known.

Is the 3.2 engine that they get over in Aussie and NZ any more reliable?

On the L200 Club there are 3000 plus members, mostly with the old shape trucks, and only a handful have had problems with the engines.
I agree, I know at least 7 or 8 people with the old shape and none have had any issues except for the one I mentioned earlier with 100k+ and a head gasket.

I still think the Isuzu is better though.

Ride comfort, handling, carrying ability or fuel economy?

I'll leave 'Off Road' out to be fair.

Which suffers the worst depreciation, an L200 or a Navara?

Now the Nav has just had it's NCAP rating reduced to ONE star, I'd hazard a guess.
In general terms, I couldn't say though.

is there an online price guide to pick ups as the VX glasses guide doesn't list any
i've seen a couple of 53 and 04 plate L200 warriors for £7995 - is this the going rate (ave mileage)?

That price seems about right although you may get stung for VAT on top as they're commercial vehicles.

As for price guides, again as they're commercials there probably isn't an 'official' guide.
You'll just have to compare a few against each other.

Also, some insurance companies won't cover them because they're commercials...blah, blah, blah....

HTH.

A Plan does mine for £450 FC. That includes all accidents and points declared.

Company policy - restricted to myself and dad - not the usual over 25years and anyone's covered thing unfortunately. That was nearly £700!

I've had a hard life, what with 2 paper-rounds.

I fancy another 4wd toy. Driving round in a truck all the time is ok, but not exactly thrilling.

Suppose there's a good chance I'm barking though.

The new shape L200 is not as rugged looking as the original. The servicing interval were (from memory) to close and the economy and performance were woeful compared to its nissan rival.

I also noticed in my scientific survey that the drivers of these vehicles are even stumpier, fatter, older and balder than impreza drivers and wearing a dayglo jacket when driving an L200 is mandatory!

round ours L200 are driven by young lads, it seems to be the new " in " vehicle

Thumbs up L200

Great to look at, brilliant to drive. That just sums it all up. The engines are weak, they tend to go. never go a used unit, it will only fail on you.

The garage where i work at supply & fit recon units with a year's warranty for £2k with free recovery to their premises. Recon units are directly from japan as they are better built over there than here.

On average they take 2 day to fit, then addional 12 hours letting the engine settle in.

Im not into mechanics, i just do the IT side to the business. I honestly feel for all people paying over £2k for just the engine. The other poster was right, the Nissan Nevara's are the same. Engine problems but they are very expensive. Stick to Nissan Micra's i say! lol

If you want a workhorse rather than a bling L200/Navara then get yourself a Ford Ranger. They tow better than the others ( particularly the hilux which is limited to 2200kg) and are better value and are made for work, not posing.
If you just want a waste of space double cab for family use then the L200/Navara will be fine but if you actually want a workhorse/load carrier then The ford Ranger is well up to the job( single cab in particular).

They tend to be much better value as the posers who just want a gay double cabL200/navara pay through the nose for these as there more interested in chrome and bling alloys than
heavy duty use. Thats fine if thats your thing but for hard core use the rangers tougher and better value- this is speaking from personal experience over the last few years.

Gay double cab, hmm yeah, has it ever occured to you that the extra seats in the double cab are for kids? or dogs? or friends?

That's what makes a pickup so versatile, work during the day and family stuff in the evening and at weekends, why run two cars when a pickup can do both jobs?

You sound bitter and twisted that you're stuck in a gay 2wd 2 door pickup.

Um, my Pickup is 4wd with big mud terrain tyres so not 2wd Yes, it is 2door-a double cab would be no use to me (need full load length) and they look too "lifestyle", like chelsea tractors, that never go off road.
Sounds right up your street, though, you fanny flap

Yup, mine never goes off road, I polish it every weekend and I only brought it because it looks nice.

Your 'insults' make you appear like some kind of child, well done.
