I've got a MY01 GX and it is supposed be 125 BHP
Bog standard, had it since 1 March and still have a smile driving it.

It sounds to me like some people like to mod and others don't but to be totally honest, the sport is a fantastic car in it own rights but is unfairly shadowed by the turbo. Having driven mine in its standard form for quite a while - it was good but now it's being modded, it's even better. The Sport has great potential and why not get at that potential and make it even better
Right, that's me off my soap box

I might invest in a brake support bracket too. Are they cheap. Do TSL have them??

WHat tyres do peeps recomend. I have 205/50/R16 Bridgestone Potenza at the mo, and they will need swapping soonish I think.

BTW - I badly kerbed a wheel during the winter, and have found a Gold toch up paint which is a brilliant match. It comes in the pack of three from Halfords (Filler, Paint & varnish stuff). Guess what it it?? Ford Galaxy Gold!! ha ha. Should be putting it on tommorow if it stops feckin raining!

Thumbs up

Although I have experienced a properly tuned Turbo, I do think
the Sport is a very good car. But except for the usual bits (back exhaust and air filters), it's hard to find performance parts for the Sport, even more difficult for the New Age!
Anyone with interesting links, plz post them on the Subaru Sportsters Yahoo page. (I've forgotten the url again,..PHM ?)

I've got a Sport with 16" Speedline alloys, Scoobysport exhaust, turbo seats and a turbo spoiler.

What performance gain will I see with an ITG filter?

I also want to change the steering wheel to a MOMO - easy to do? I'd really like to be able to lower the wheel enough so I can see the dashboard lights - that huge subaru thing bangs my legs on anything but the highest setting

Hello

From MY99+ the sport has the "Phase 11" boxer giving an extra 8 or 9 bhp. Which equates to around 125bhp.

My old car:-
Black mica Sport Special
Scooby sport exaust
Turbo gold wheels
A prodrive re-map to 145bhp

New Car:-
White GX
WRX 17s
MP3 player

The GX is an underestimated car too, basicly the same running gear, abeit smaller brakes etc, much more solid car.

Paul

Ref the filters, i've had it from a reliable source that you can get a Pipercross viper induction kit which is ideal for our sort of car due to the air intake being at the back.

Tyres - I've got 215/40/17 F1 Goodyears, cost £350 in Leeds about 3 Wks ago and absolutley fantastic. My old ones were Yokos and Dunlops and they tram-lined better than any tram in Blackpool

Up the Sport/GX!!

Been looking at Sports all this week, but wondering whether to get a loan or not. I can get around 5500 at the mo, What age\mileage is this going to get me??

I've seen 97P's from 4k - 8k

5500 should get you a decent one - I've seen one for 8000 2night on a T plate. Check the Subaru dealers site. Don't be that put off by high mileage

Re ITG filter - get one as they arent expensive + they soon pay for themselves because they dont need replacing on service. Not sure figures etc but performance wise they seem to improve throttle response considerably over a standard filter. Not looked back since I goy mine.
Intresting comments about the Output PS - just had a look at the official spec at the back of the Subaru catalogue which I kept and all 2.0 not turbos are listed 125 @ 5600. This listing was well before the Sport Special.
I dont care anyway really - goes well enough for me.
Cheers

Seen quite a few at 80,000 that I quite liked, but I was worried about resale, supposing I put 30k on it, that would make 110k and probably be worth peanuts???

Subaru don't really sem to have any Sports in my price range, allthought their website is down at the mo

Would it be such a risk to buy a 100k sport... and how much would it cost to repair if it lets go ?

Just seen a 98S, £6k, 80,000, Think I'll take a look

Cool

Magnex developed the sport exhaust using my scooby sport for which i got a cat back system 6x4 oval f.o.c! Made quite a differance & turns heads when it pops & bangs when engine breaking.

Question

How much is the Magnex BB? and does it sound like it the Turbo.. not that I'd want to pretend

The TSL one at over £300 is a bit too much for just a BB.

Not wanting to put you off Sport prices, but you've probably noticed that they don't come cheap.
I paid 10000 for my 97R - but it had enough mods to look like a turbo ('cept holes in the bonnet) and was *immaculate* at 21000 miles).
Only just managed to get insurance < 1000 quid (24, 3 years no claims).
The SS exhaust sounds better than the standard twin pipe on the turbo (burble burble pop bang ).
Tyre - Toyo Proxes T1-S - Well over spec ... only tram-line on braking (then pretty bad...)

If it does start to go wrong, there's no shortage of scrappies. Besides, the engine is one of the best out there for reliabity. Get on the Subaru Sportsters web site and I'm sure the lads/lasses will tell you what they think if you're totally at a loose end

Pretty sure it's yours Simon - came from Lsters in Worcester - a bit too perfect to be able to haggle the price....

Cost me 3 points so far, and I've only had it 8 months...

My brake support bracket was from Scoobymania. A Cheap mod that improves brake feel masively.

I bought my Nov98 Sport when it was 11 months old and had 8000 miles on the clock for £11K, It now has 35,000 miles on the clock, should be worth around £7.5K i recon.

Get a 2nd hand Turbo bonnet, no-one will know the difference
I followed a Sport along some twisty roads in Scotland last summer & I would have had to drive like & looney to get past him, so I agree they are a bloody good underestimated car.
It`s not what you`ve got it`s how you use it
I saw a nice R reg red sport with 17`s & a different B/B parked in Whitehaven yesterday, is it anybodys on here?

I must agree, a bonnet is a good addition - it looks good and is a must for getting cold, dense air to the induction kit which sits directly underneath - it does make a difference. I got a brand new bonnet and second-hand vents and scoop from the scrappies for £200 and a further £160 for it spraying.

I've joined and it does take a while unless you get an invite. It's all like-minded individuals who think the Sport is under-estimated and aim to have meets etc at pre-organised taverns. We're unfairly shadowed by the Turbo so hang slang and mean while, keep flying the flag!!
