Lovely car that mate, I've just bought a V3 Type R shell for a bit of a project.

I'm amazed I haven't seen you out and about in Donny.

The cage kind of gives things away

Its just shy of 500bhp.

The new one will be around 550 - 600 all being well

i wouldnt mind 500 bhp! i have had a ride in a 400 bhp scooby so i think a 600 would be insanely fast. i wish i had the mechanical skills to do what you have done with yours but unfortunatly i dont lol

Its already got the DCCD running gear!! It will need a PPG gearset in it though with the power I'm going to be throwing through it (550bhp)

It does but you can retian ABS with the New Age cars A-DCCD. Id be tempted to transfer all of the running gear form a dead STI Type-UK... Id keep the sports cat too and settle for about 320 reliable bhp.

My other scoob (500bhp) already has the STI 8 six speed drive train.

But the ratios are not quite suited to a high power 2.5. Niether are they good for 1/4 mile days as you need to go for 5th just before crossing the line

The 5 speed will have the correct PPG ratios for my needs (slightly longer) .

The Type R doesnt have ABS and I dont want it to be honest as it will be more of a hinderance on track.

However you can put a classic DCCD box on an ABS equipped classic and retain ABS.

If you do a search on here many people have done just that.

You also have an additional 30-40 kilos with the six speed.

You don't need a six speed for 320 bhp though the UK five speed will be ok providing you dont slam it into gear. Been there done that, two five speeds in two weeks at 350 bhp. It was then I went for the six speed. I had an RB5 at the time and mine was the first six speed classic conversion that RCMS did.

Hello daz,
how much of a job is it to change gearbox?
I am running about 280 and am getting a new turbo soon, but the power is going to kill my standard 5 speed. What box do you think?

hi fella (didnt mean to butt in daz )

are you looking for an all in cost or just labour for taking one out?

recently had my gearboxchanged and swapped with a recon one from api.

the gearbox itself was £925 inc shipping to garage
scoobybits did the refit and also fitted an uprated clutch. that, labour a full service and originally recovering the car was another £768

so factor out the clutch £200ish, full service £260ish and collection £100 the labour costs were very reasonable to be honest. reciepts somewhere... will dig it out

I'd wait until you actually break the box. It depends how the car is driven. If you crack it into gear and drop the clutch its going to break for sure!!

If on the other hand you do slowish proper gear changes which allow you to engage the synchros properly then it may last.

If it's a road car I'd look at the six speed. Its a dead simple swap contrary to what a lot of people say on here. A uk six speed goes straight onto a UK car without the need to swap driveshafts and hubs etc. All you need is a auto propshaft from classic or a six speed propshaft.

If you're wanting to keep the five speed then you're going to be looking at a fair few quid to drop a PPG set up in.

If the PPG's were about when I did the six speed I'd have gone for one them.

Various people supply and fit PPG's I'd say the best are probably Zen and API.

Cheers

Daz

from recent experiences, im inclined to agree with daz and the above. may as well foof the current box. me myself and i are planning on a remap and bigger turbo to hit around 300/300. on a standard 5spd uk classic gearbox, which essentially all mine is, should handle fine as i dont boot it everywhere if you want more punishment, ppg is the danglies

Cheers for replies

So a good option is to get a 6 speed from a new age when my box gives up. Cause i am not going to track it much, mainly a road car.

Yep, i've just sold my six speed too.

Just to note you'd be better of with a non DCCD one.

It made the car for me when I had mine done.

Bloody ****e myself!! Thought someone had nicked my car!!!
