Bought a coupe 2 weeks ago. After 11 years of ownership and rising fuel costs it was time to say farewell to Subaru. Opted for a 123d M Sport Coupe. Lovely drive, fairly quick in standard guise and should return 50mpg. Approx. £450 buys a P-Tronic unit that boosts power from 204 to 265 and raises torque to a massive 516Nm.

Thought I'd miss the scooby but I haven't. OK, it was neck snapping fast but the cost of ownership was way too high. Still running in the coupe so haven't nailed it yet but performance so far is very good.

Stats look great - 120d is quite impressive, so this with 25bhp odd more will no doubt be excellent!

The problem is BMW are just corning every market segment! I work in a regular business park, and BMW is probably the most common brand - hardly surprising when its cheaper to lease a BMW than a Vectra in many cases as the value rentenion is so much better on the BMW, thats its as cheap to lease despite the higher purchase price.

At some point BMW will surely become a victim of their own success!

REally wanted one of these but find the side profile very odd for a coupe and they sit higher up than a 3 series coupe, will be ordering a 320d coupe tomorrow...

The one is nice from the front but the rest is just not right, each to their own, cracking engine though, shames it's only available in the Alpina coupe and not BMW's official line up.

Thanks for your comments. The car has a big car feel on the inside with room for a 6 foot driver and rear passenger. Boot space is quite impressive, it also has folding rear seats, something that was lacking on my STi. Having said that the car is purely for commuting, the weekend family drive is a Verso T180.

I've always liked "individual" cars. My first of 3 Imprezas was purchased when there was a 12 month waiting list and grey imports weren't readily avaiable. With BMW only producing 3500 coupes per year it will be a rarity on the roads and one of the reasons I didn't go for a 3 series.

Don't think it looks 1 series hatchback odd on profile, maybe it's like marmite

Very nice car. Well done for having some imagination and not going for black leather . I have to say I am glad don't have to keep that paintwork clean though .

Was looking at the brochure a moment ago, and the recovery times in gear for certain speeds is only +0.5 secs than the 135i! Lmao!

This thing remapped will turn into hulk!

It uses about half as much fuel as the 135i too.

Good buy!

I'm only getting 47mpg, having said that the cars only got 600 miles on the clock so I hope to improve on that as things loosen up and computer recalculates.

In monetary terms my 5 day/week commute in the Subaru was costing £220 a month, in the coupe it's £100.
Insurance on the Subaru was £80/month, coupe £33/month.
Road tax Subaru was £220, coupe = £130.
Subaru Trackstar = £10/year, coupe = £0

Annual saving of £ 2,214 , plus new warranty, no service costs for 19000 miles. Better residuals as scoobies will get harder and harder to sell as fuel prices increase.

It's criminal not to get one.

Well, I have scraped plans for the 320d coupe (as much as I love thr shape) and decided to go with the 1 series, the 3 was just out of my price range plus the 1 series has the better engine, not much differnece in size once in the car.

You won't be disappointed. Take a look here for info on everything 1 related.

BMW 1 Series • Index page

Best interior option, after leather - USB audio, put music on memory stick and plug in.

You've not seen the sparkling graphite 123d 3 door hatch in Nick Whales have you!?

I popped over to Sytner in Solihull last weekend and they had a 123d with the performance pack extras. Thought it looked fantastic, but not £31k's worth of fantastic.

The only thing stopping me having one of these is that I want an SMG/DSG style gearbox, not an automatic with manual option. In much the same way that the only thing stopping me buying a Golf GTI with DSG box is the fact that it doesn't do 50mpg

I've got 1 of those 123d M-Sport cars, it's gorgeous, although needing it's first service now as it's around 10,000miles old. Felt rapid when first bought it, doesn't feel AS tasty now but that could just be me being used to it.

Bought a 57 demonstrator with 4,500 on the clock, and I have to say it's a dream to drive, averaged 120mph on the way back from Paris the other week and the economy was still good.

Got a guy coming to look at doing engine mapping for me this week; how much is that going to boost the HP? And is that the same as the attachment someone mentioned you could get?

Any ideas?

This is my next car (well not that exact one of course). It's the only car for years i've truley lusted after. I have the 1 series hatch back, seriously ugly I think. Whereas the coupe is gorgeous. Black with red leather is defo the way to go I think...hmm

Overpriced, but who cares! It's the closest new car to an E30 M3 I think.

Looks like the Boys at Evolve have managed to remap the 123d through the OBD Port! Some impressive gains to be had.

An extra 40BHP and 60ft/lb torque should make that little baby fly!!

Does indeed. Don't think there are many people who can map these cars either. Looks like they've done some good work on 335D's and 335i's also!

Just found this!

Fair enough, love the 120d map though - could be a goer [on behalf of my colleague]. So out of interest how come the 123d map seems a little jumpy, both stock and remap?
