Whenever HP is mentioned it always reminds me of the scene in 2 Pints of Lager where Gaz is defending himself by saying that he isn't thick; he reads books!

"alright then, which ones?"

Gaz: "I read the latest Harry Potter!"

"you only read that because Hermione became legal!"

Well I have a bit of imagination left at 38 but I enjoy the books and the films.

It's OK to enjoy kids stuff !!

Good V's Bad stories have been told in different formats for years, Star Wars, LOTR etc. Some better than others, some movies better than the books and some books better than the movies.

On the Harry Potter topic the books are far better and more detailed than the films. The films have limited time so most of the sub plot is missing and a lot of the main story is rushed through to get the special effects sequences in.

Some may not like it but as JKR's bank balance shows many do.

Cheers
Lee

Sums up today's dumbed down society, that people compare the two, pretty much just because the films were out at the same time.

Fair enough, if you don't like Fantasy type films, then you won't like either, but don't make out that they are in any way similar.
If it bothered by things like this you really need to get out more. If your reply was directed my way i only mentioned the the two as they are both fantasy films and both bored the hell out of me.

It's not meant to be A level english literature.

I get through about 30 books a year some good some poor, some heavy reading some light, some fiction some fact.

The story is about a wizard through his school years at a magical school while fighting an arch enemy.

Surely from that sentence you have a rough idea if you are going to enjoy it or not?

I quite like Peter F Hamilton Sci Fi books but some slate them. He's had many best sellers so he must be doing something right.

Books are a bit like cars. All different sorts for all different people, you may not like one but it doesn't always mean they are crap.

Usually sales speak for themselves.

The MKIV Ford Escort was an all time best seller in it's segment. Likewise the Vectra.

I said it doesn't always mean they are crap so I'll add.

Mondeo, Focus.

Not everyones taste and slated in various threads but provide an entertaining drive to a large number of people.

As for sales? I was refering to books. Books are not usually bought for cheap servicing and parts.

Cheers

I've read all the books and watched all the films.
Done the same for the LOTR series too.
I like em both. For different reasons.
