Well, *******, I haven't driven a new TT and am unlikely to have a go in the new R8, but the A6, S6, A8 & S8 all fall into the same crap steering, inert chassis, and mismatched spring & damper rates category as the A4 and A3.

Which brings us back to the point that the only Audi's worth driving are the current RS4 and new S3.

And even that appears open to debate.

But they do have those lovely interiors, to be fair

All current Audi A3/S3 and TT are based on VW's Golf V A5 platform (which is also used by the Octavia, Leon, Touran and of course the Golf). The A8/S8 is based on the VW's D3 platform, the same as the Phaeton.

1. The TT chassis is very fundamentally different to the Golf and A3. Infact if you want to know what the next gen golf and A3 will drive like go drive the MK2 TT, as they are gonna be using similiar chassis.

Aas for the A8/Phateon, the phateon is more bentley than audi

Seriously guys try harder!!!!!!!

Do some research, a quick search in google will tell otherwise. The MK2 TT IS based on the A5 platform, the same as the current Golf, Leon, Touran, Octavia and A3, fact! Yes D3 platform is also used by Bentley, not supprising since Bentley is also owned by VAG. I'm not necessarily saying platform sharing is a bad thing, but fact is fact, all the cars mentioned are based on VW chassis.

1. the A5 is sitting on a brand new platform. Only the A5 is using that platform at the moment.
2. The MK2 TT platform is so fundamentally different some might say its a different chassis.
3. The D3 chassis came from audi not VW The A8 has been around for ages, the phaeton hasnt. The phaeton is more bentley, than it is audi, as I mentioned before

Again, try harder

A5 platform (PQ35), not Audi A5 numpty!
Volkswagen A platform - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The old A8 used the D2 platform. Phaeton has been in production from 2002 using the D3 platform, the current Bentley and A8 came out in 2003 and 2004 using the D3 platform.

D3 platform is constructed from high strength steel while Audi A8 is made in a different factory, on a different platform, using an aluminum space frame.

as for the A5 platform everyone already knows the TT, Golf and A3 share it along with the leoon and octavia, I didnt think you would need to bring that up, instead talking about the A5.

However the MK2 TT is a generation ahead of the rest of the A5 chassied cars so it not the same

How about quoting the whole paragraph for the D3 platform!!

"The Phaeton's platform, the D3 platform, is shared with the Audi A8, Bentley Continental GT and Bentley Continental Flying Spur. ."

Show me where it says the TT is based on the next generation chassis!

The audi tt isnt based on the next generation chassis. It is the next generation chassis. The next golf and A3 will be riding its chassis

The audi A8 chassis is aluminium, the phateon isnt

So despite all the info that is out there regarding the curent MKII Audi TT, you're saying that its not based on the A5 (NOT Audi A5 MLP) (PQ35) platform as used by all the current mid sized VAG cars? As usual talking out of your **** with no proof to back it up!

Wwhat car do you drive mr spider look alike username?

What I drive is irrelevant *******, but its currently a 3.2 Shogun SWB (which, incidentally, has a more responsive chassis than any Audi i've ever driven - go figure)

I have, however, had the good fortune to have driven many thousands of miles in various cars (some of which I have owned personally) which are acknowledged as having amongst the best chassis balance, responsiveness and steering out there, so am probably more qualified to comment than you are on the subject of what makes a car "good to drive"

As a luxobarge, in context, the A8 is pretty good. Its not that great to drive, however, which is what I said in my post above, had you actually read it properly. I will still stand by the fact it has crap steering and a dull chassis. As do the A3, A4, A6 and old TT.

Anyway, you keep telling us that you have driven every Audi out there, so why not explain in your own words, based on your own personal experiences why you disagree with my statements about Audi's being dull to drive, rather than simply quoting obscure german magazine references.

If you have actually driven them, that should be easy enough to do.

I glanced at that too quickly and thought you'd magically got through the swear filter. Certainly agree with you though! AL has little or no experience of what he spouts about.

Used to run an S6 Avant and it was great for long drives on main roads/motorways. Was sh*te on any "decent" back roads and I really couldn't get on with that autobox (but I don't get on with any automatics).

Traded it for the new 06STi which is in a different league in all respects as far as I'm concerned. Obviously they are completely different types of cars as the S6 was a better long distance cruiser (even thought the mpg wasn't any better but then it was a big heavy V8 ).

I didn't get on with it anyway and wouldn't buy another Audi 'cos of it (and the others I've been in) even though I still think the original UR Quattro (and SWB one esp) are pretty damn good.
