And while im here, fresh remap for TOTB & the remaining TA rounds. 567bhp and 552ft/lb



Dyno shows full boost by 4k but on the road in 4th, the car was hitting full boost (1.6 bar) by around 3.3k

The Scoobyclinic GT35r kit continues to amaze me, awesome spool up but still makes the power, bugger all boost in relation to what it's capable of......and all on vpower + splash of booster and on a restrictive 92Db exhaust (96Db with launch control on )

I wasn't 100% sure a 35r was going to be the turbo of choice for track work, people have found them too laggy to warrant the power gains, but whatever clinic have done to their kit, it works Oh, and Pat might have something to do with it too

Just off to scoobyclinic to do a few more mods ready for TOTB tomorrow, like replace my cracked front discs amongst other thing

 

That's fantastic spool up, have you posted details on your heads/cam setup anywhere?

 

I think so somewhere, they're standard jdm AVCS heads

 

And while i'm here a quick TOTB report.


Didn't quite go according to plan day started off okay, got on the handling circuit early on and had a few warm up laps with a view to go for it in the afternoon, it soon became apparent that the circuit wasn't going to suit my car, it had been made so tight compared to SSO to keep noise down that i couldn't get my car round the tight bends or get out of them without major lag, that together with my failing 3rd gear saw me a few seconds off at lunch, i could go quicker but i wasn't going to be troubling the nimble sprint cars.

I decided to get my drag and top speed runs in just before lunch, i wasn't going to give the car too much grief as i didn't want to break anything (famous last words! ) so kept my runs to one go at the drag and then a combined drag & top speed run, managed a 10.8 then a top speed of 165 over the standing km

Straight after lunch and i'm into the queue for the handling, i've got 3 goes left and i'm sure i've got a few good seconds in me as i hadn't attacked the braking points in many of the corners, i set off the line, best start yet, get into 2nd then go for third into the first kink.......and nothing, no drive, shift to 2nd to see if i've stripped 3rd but there's no drives still. I crawl to a stop outside the course and wait for a tow back to the pits, game over

Drop gears in the DCCD seem to be the culprit, it's not a complete disaster as the box was coming out anyway to sort the 3rd gear issue. I've left the car in the capable hands of Scoobyclinic to get it sorted in time for Brands in 2 weeks time.

It was great to be part of the winning team for the 2nd year in row, think i managed to score 1 point for my top speed run, so the breakage wasn't in total vain

what was up with the car in the final or am i getting confuddled with someone else.

 

Thanks Engine died, lot of smoke no power and then a final spurge of oil out the bonnet as i pulled up it was running badly at the start of qualifying so i was extremely lucky to get it through that and the final before it let go.

 

hope you get it sorted out in time for the next round kev. got to keep up the 100% record.

good excuse for even more power though

Yeah, had to exercise a few demons from last years round, Dill i should have done a mid 51 looking at timing sheets but never got a good clear lap, next time.....

As for engine, i have a few options, need to determine what went wrong first

Been a busy week at work so not had chance to do the write up until now, a few of the minor details from the Brands weekend escape me so i'll keep it a bit shorter usual.

The lead up to Brands Hatch was a fairly quiet one, i had nothing planned to do to the car, Scoobyclinic had finished rebuilding the gearbox after the failure at TOTB (split the DCCD centre diff casing in half causing untold damage). I turned up on the Saturday to do a change of pads and was all set to set off for Brands nice and early when i thought it might be a good idea to check the geometry since i'd had the Whiteline Anti-lift kit fitted. Turned out it was slightly out from my preferred settings so set about re aligning the car.......2 hours later and i was ready to set off The drive down to Brands was interesting shall we say with the trailer trying to swap lanes all the way down due to the heavy rain and standing water, finally made it to Brands to drop the car off for the night. An hour later and we were in the hotel and then out for a Chinese and a few drinks..........2am came and went and it was time for bed

Sunday morning and the weather had dried up and the sun was shining. Scrutineering, briefing out of the way and were ready to go in warm up, i'm only bedding the pads in so have to take it steady for the majority of the session, it's nearing the end and i get a bit of space on track and decide to push the car to see how my setup from Oulton handles the track, it doesn't feel too bad but i've got a bit of turn in oversteer and make a note to tweek the rears for the next session. I got my self sorted with a timing beacon for the first time this year for the morning warm up and the i was fastest with a 53, not bad for saying i didn't go quicker than a 54-55 last year

The first practice is upon us and i'd made my changes to the car to try and get rid of the oversteer, a couple of laps in and it seems to have worked, i'm a bit more confident into Paddock Hill and exiting Clearways and go on to set fastest time again with a 52 dead, i still feel there's more to come as i'm not pushing 100% and feel i'm on for the 51 sec lap i set myself.

Qualifying is up after lunch and i'm a bit late back to the pits after a driver's briefing for next year, i start the car and there's a ton of smoke from under the bonnet, that doesn't look good. A few of the Clinic guys have a look and i can tell from their faces their not happy with something I get told the engines breathing heavily and their not sure what it is, i'm told to limit the laps i do, just get a time quick enough to qualify and bring it in. I set off on my out lap and it blowing smoke still and it's running really rough, it clears up though by the end of the lap and i decide i just have to go for it, i put in a quickish lap but at the same time trying to give the engine an easier time by shifting up sooner, i'm not sure if it's quick enough and decide to go for another as the car sounds good and i can't see much smoke, i don't get a clean lap and decide that my first lap will do. I bring it in and park it up, smoke still coming out of the bonnet. I sit around for 10 minutes while everyone else goes about their business, end of the session and i've qualified first somehow. All i have to do now is cross my fingers and hope i can get one lap out of it in the final.

I've spent the time inbetween qualifying and the final keeping my mind off the fact that my engine could go pop at any time by going to see my mate who's come down to see me and go and sit in the grandstand at Paddock Hill and watch the pro qualifying. It's time for the final and i make my way back to the pits, i'm told 5 minutes till we're out.....i get a briefing as to how to treat the car, take it easy for a few laps, see how it feels then get a fast lap in the pit, see where we are then go out if needed. I get out on track and it's blowing smoke more than it was before, bugger! And it's running rougher too as it takes me 3 laps to get it to clear up, i decide it's now or never and go for a quick one, this is where my memory isn't so good and i'm sure i get caught up in traffic on my first attempt, maybe even my 2nd (timing sheet would tell me if i looked) either way at some point i get a decent lap in and record a 52 something, not a quick as in practice but it'll do! I pit soon after to give the engine a rest, it seems to be lasting I pull in and ask how the times are doing.........close is the answer, everyone's done their usual and turned the boost up or put race fuel in. We decide that i might need to go out again and go for another few laps to see if i can improve, i know i have it in me but does the engine? I find out pretty much straight away as i come onto the main straight and the engine let's go, smoke comes pouring out of the bonnet and i lose all power, game over! I pull to the inside and check i'm not losing any oil, seems ok and i cruise round, but the car becomes more and more undriveable until it loses all power and i pull off just after Graham Hill bend, and try and make it back into the paddock but the engine says no more and splurges oil out all over the bonnet Had i done enough though, had anyone gone quicker? I stand around for a few minutes watching the end of the session until one of the Clinic crew comes over to tell me i'd hung on and had won it, my initial response is one of relief, i had come so close to 1 point rather than 15, but that's it though, the championship had been won, all those hours i'd put in on the car, all those hours Scoobyclinic had put in, it had all paid off. It's not sunk in yet, i doubt it will till i get my hands on the trophy in 8 weeks time. My only goal now is to win all 6, it won't be easy though, i have no engine and not sure what to do for just one round with nothing much riding on it, either way i'll get out for the last round, enjoy myself knowing that i can't throw it away like i nearly did this weekend. Time for a well earned rest for a few weeks!!

BTW, bit late now, but you are a bit of a nugget for not highlighting the issue at TOTB. Guess who had a spare DCCD, drops and casings in the roof box in the tow car ?

It wouldn't be motorsport without the lows aswell as the highs, just got lucky that the lows happened after the highs this year

And i didn't know what had happened at TOTB, thought it was 3rd gear that had let go, don't think we'd had changed it in time anyway.
