It reads engine noise and displays it as a level indicated by a coloured led. Much like a VU meter on a stereo.
If a cylinder starts detonating, ie it's no longer a smooth burn of fuel the explosive force will create a knock, much like a hammering effect, which will be registered as noise then displayed as flashing LEDS. Hopefully this will give you enough time to back off before permanently damaging the engine. Then get the cause of the problem sorted without a rebuild.
It can also pick up background noise like valvetrain at high revs, which would tend to show up as steadily increasing noise.

Have not heard anything from BR developements yet. I spoke to them on wednesday last week and they said they had 13/15 and hoped to post out over the weekend/monday providing they got 15 payments. I sent them an email on friday asking if they had 15 (pretty sure they do) but have not got a reply. If I don't have one in the post today I will phone them to ask what the status is.

Just got an email back, BR did not get them posted yesterday but expect to post them today, tomorrow at the very latest. Apologies for the slight delay but they will be here by the later part of the week.

I got mine fitted the other day, it stays on green very dim though then as you give it some stick the green light gets brighter. Its never gone into the other colours yet, is this normal?
Also, what does the little adjustment screw on the side do?
cant find the instructions!
Colin.

Col, screw on the side increases/decreases the sensitivity. You should calibrate it so that under normal conditions you steadily get more lights as more revs come in but never get the knock light.
Where do you fit the sensor to the block? I've been trying all afternoon but cant get mine on. Heres a picture of my block below the passenger side of the intercooler, the arrow is where I am trying to fit it. Is this correct as my M8 bolt wont go in for love nor money.

I've fitted mine today.
I screwed the sensor on the place in the picture above using a 30mm M8 bolt.
The Knocklink is on max sensitivity and I am occasionally, when booting it, seeing a quick flash of red.
I quite often get the red light when I change gear during hard acceleration.
Nice green lights most of the time and usually just the first one. Has been nice and cold today. SHould be interesting in the summer.
