Always a good idea to remove batteries from laptops, shavers, razors and phones from now on..... and tape over any exposed battery terminals with sellotape (or some other generic tape)........
I remember being hauled out of the lounge at Jo'burg airport once and marched by some mean looking security staff to an empty bit of tarmac - empty that was aside from my suitcase surrounded by barking German Sheperds! Turned out my electric razoz had turned itself on and was buzzing away.... dl
Funnily enough, same thing happened to me years ago. Flying out of Teesside Airport, and was taken to a secure room and told to open up my suitcase. I'd put the recharge cord in with my shaver, and after seeing the scan myself, it did look like a bomb of somekind. Luckily this was about 15 years ago.

Why, Im sure you can carry hand luggage if flying from another destination. It was just the UK that put a stop on the hand luggage, Dublin airport are allowing hand luggage too.
