Seems Utd really dont want to let him go. Or is Madrids offer reflecting the fact RVN desperately wants out...i think Utd will try and squeeze a few more ££ out of them

They don't want him to go for a ludicrous price, that's all. They are resigned to the fact that they're losing him.

The deal will be wrapped up within the next 48 hours, I believe.

Yes they rejected a 10million pound offer. I will retract my above post...if i was Man Utd i wouldnt let him go for 10mill!!

Nic Anelka is going to Portsmouth for over 8mill!!!

hmmmm....RVN or NA.....I know who i would rather have in my team, as much as i dislike RVN.

I think it was £12m they rejected, as United are looking for something around £15m.

As far as I know, the deal is very much still on, it's just a matter of Real bringing the fee up slightly.

I think we're getting to the stage where Fergie knows he'll have to take something lower than £15m, so he's able to kick-start transfer activity.

i read that fegie said that he is a very simular palyer to shev and he said he wants the same price. i dont think he'll go for that much because chelsea just have more money than sence.im hopeing for the £20 mill mark. he cant go for less cause hes one of the best if the best striker in the world. going for £10 will is

id love to see torres at ot
also Gattuso is discusing hes future with milan, his agents and hopefully talks with united.

plenty of things will happen soon, well i hope

There's no chance we'll get £20m for him - £14m maximum.

Once the Ruud deal is finalised, I think we'll see United press on with bringing Torres to Old Trafford. Again, there are conflicting reports in the press. Some say we're going for Defoe, while others say we're in 'new talks' with Torres and Atletico.

Fergie Expectes ruud to be back for training on Monday

"They have made an offer, we have rejected it," confirmed Ferguson.

"If they don't come back in and increase their offer, he won't be going and I would be content with that. It would not bother me one bit"

Neither would I fergie, if he gets his head down and concentrates on his game rather than throwing strops.

I really hope glazer comes up with the cash, I'm sitting dreaming of a team with new signings of torres, carrick and viera and keeping rvn.

That would be a top class squad, and something to really challenge chelsea with.

As a United fan I hate to say this, but it's not going to happen - it'll have to remain a dream.

It's one or the other with van Nistelrooy and Torres - but it'll be one hell of a coup if we do prise 'El Nino' away from Atletico.

Personally, I think we'll end up keeping Ruud and signing Gattuso/Diarra and Carrick. I just don't see Atletico letting Torres go for any less than the £41.5 million clause in his contract, which we'll struggle to even get close to.

Still, the lack of transfer activity from Sir Alex is making me moody.

With united we rarely hear about transfers until they happen.

Viera used to have wet dreams about playing for us and probably still does so if the chance comes he will sign.

Diarra I haven't seen play and haven't heard anything about us signing him (from the club officially) but lyon seem to be a pain in the **** to do business with so not sure that will happen.

The cash must be there for torres, I say pay the 40 mil if needed, to be the best you need to sign the best.

50-60 mil spent on torres, carrick and diarra/viera could be the difference between winning the league and the european cup and 2nd place again with no euro success.

I say that's 60 mil well spent.

The rumour is that he'll end up at Internazionale, in a deal worth £7m. Apparently Vieira will "not be going back to England".

As I've said before, I don't think I'd like seeing him in a United shirt.

Apparently he's ready to make an announcement over his future within the next four or five days. Personally, I think he'll end up at Real, as it has gone very quiet recently from our point of view (the same with Mascherano) - although that may turn out to be a good thing.

Nothing wrong with wishful thinking

If viera can reproduce his world cup form I'd be happy to see him in the united shirt!

If we are to keep money for torres then Carrick and viera would be good buys as could get the 2 for less than diarra.

The midfield issue is an interesting one. If O'Shea can play again like he did 3 years ago then he can make a good back up midfielder. I can see Scholes coming back strong and think Ronaldo is a very strong character so I think he'll have a great season to shut up the boo boys. I still think a signing or 2 is needed despite those positives.

i don't think UTD will be making anytransfers worth big $$ because the Glazers borrowed over 830 million US$ to buy the club putting the club into debt.as much as i would like to see vierra or torres play for united i don't think it will be happening. as much as you Brits think we americans are ignorant about football.. some of us across the pond would qualify as die hard fans. and the fact that there are 11million+ youth players my self included

Viera has signed for Inter so he ain't coming.

Torres I don't think is coming this summer, in future years - who knows.

I'm sure as businessmen the Glazers will see that they may have to spend more and go a bit deeper into debt to increase the success of the club to help pay off the debt.

I only have to refer to the summer of 98-99 where the board allocated 14m for transfers, this was promptly spent on Stam and Blomqvist. We need to stretch to a further 13m for Dwight Yorke but that season we won the treble. Would it have been won without Yorke - no it wouldn't.

The massive financial gain of such success can make it worthwhile, that's why if Carrick can help bring more success over the next 5 years the money spent on him will be a drop in the ocean. He might not be the best in the world, but he will fit into our style of play much better than say Riquelme and will improve the team.

Oh and welcome to the board!!!

If we don't land Torres within the next month, I fear we'll never see him in a United shirt.

I still refuse to write off landing him shortly - if we are to sign Senna in the coming days, surely it means we're going to spend big on a striker, and I would place Torres at the top of the list, with Tevez closely behind.

Well I reckon signing Senna sorts the midfield out as good as it can be sorted out without doing a chelsea and having lots of unsettled players.

That leaves presumably a decent bundle of cash for a striker, I'd like to see a 30m+ Torres bid made really, I don't see why not if SAF believes that he is the man to replace Ruud for the next 5/6 years and more then that isn't bad value.

I think if we'd have kept hold of van Nistelrooy, we'd be looking at someone a little pricier than Senna to plug the gap.

But, if the speculated £3.5m price tag is close to accurate, it's a very good deal for us. I think Senna's European experience (although slightly limited) will come in handy, and could be invaluable for Carrick in the Champions League this season.

yeah manu fan thru thick and thin. i even got to go 2 england last summer. scared for my life to admit i'm american when we were in manchester..... but yeah they borrowed almost all their money from compannies like AIG to purchase the club. so i don't think any transfers are going to happen. but i wouldn't know what happened unless you guys told me. the local news here isn't so keen on footy news especially euorpean footy. more about american football(which sucks *** btw). my friend whose a transplanted manchesterian gets sky sports. and his lil bro is a MCFC fan. the littler bugger. anywho. it's gonna be a while before united's out of debt. they should look towards their youth program and draw from there. maybe they get lucky and find the next walcot or rooney you never know until you try.

I'm interested in hearing why you think that.

In my opinion, I think purchasing a cheaper midfield player is the first step in the process of doing so.

AF is constantly saying how hes happy with our forwards, and to be honest I can see why. Rooney and Solksjaer and the sometimes the very good Saha. Rossi looks like hes ready to prove himself now, and Smithy coming back as a striker can only be a good thing, he'll certainly want to show that he can still cut it, and I hope he does, they ruined him when they used him as a midfieldfielder imo.

We're always buying midfielders, granted its an area we're always lacking in but I think we should maybe get rid of a few before buying anymore now.

Having said all that, buying a big name striker can only be a good thing!

Don't forget, Sir Alex said he was happy with his current squad before the Celtic friendly, yet since then we've signed Carrick and Senna (almost).

It's hard to take things at face value, especially so considering the sharks in the water these days. If he mentions he has a yearning interest for Torres, it would put Chelski and the like on red alert, and we'd end up missing out again.

We have good depth, I agree, but we're missing a prolific goalscorer. Do you honestly think the combination of Saha, Rossi, Ole and Smith will bring in 20-30 goals this season between them, on top of their own personal averages?

I'm not trying to be negative, but we can't simply brush off Ruud's departure - we need a suitable replacement.
