i dont know about that because ive read on here before where he said run all scoobs on fully synth, but i did what my subaru book said, semi synth 5w-30.

i understand it to be fully synth for the classic and semi for the new age cars,

i also think that magnetec is a semi synth oil, so no good in a type R to answer the first question

I am the luckiest person around - I have used Magnatec in all of my scoobs and clocked over 200,000 miles! Standard MY97 UK Turbo, JDM MY97 STi (320bhp), JDM WRX MY2003 (260bhp) and MY03 STi8 (350bhp) - sorry to upset everyone but I quite like it!

makes me laugh with some of the comments on here saying its recycled!! I happen to work on a castrol site as a contractor, and they are very thorough in the labs when they have made a blend.

Best comment was saying castrol oil is $h!te and then someone mentioned that halfords green was better. Hmmm when that post was made the halfords green was castrol oil! (still is maybe)

nothing wrong with magnatec at all, the problem is this site there is so much $hite spoken on here.
as long as the oil you are using meets the requirements stated by the manufacturer then it will be fine, i have been using it subarus now for over 12 yrs and not had a problem, it is like anything though if you start to abuse it i.e track days then you need something that can handle the abuse and will cope at higher temps and pressures better.

scoobyboy, there are people around with knowledge of "that" oil that allows them to speak from experience, I personally know of more than a few cars that have damaged themselves using it, I also know of two Subaru dealers who when they stopped using it also found they didn't have any more engine failures after oil change and their warranty bills dropped considerably, although perhaps I am talking sh1te as well ?

Basically its not good enough to take the turbo temps in a modified car for sure, a std car "may" survive but I border on "not mapping" a car with it in depending on when it was last changed I take it that seriously !!

Scoobynet ... talk about misinformation at times !!

FWIW ... and that may not be considered much ... I personally use either Shell Helix Ultra 5-40 OR Motul Power 5-40, running 1.8 bar 6 years ago now 2 bar for the last 12 months, survives multiple drag runs at a time, changed every 5000 miles, oil temps dropped 9 degrees when I did get on to the 5-40 btw. gets black as hell by the time I change, means its doing its job, any oil stays brown is doing "not much" or the car is driven like a 2CV

just my two penneth

One thing i will add, it is known that cheaper oils don't burn off as clean as a proper synthetic does, this is very important as it can leave deposits in the turbo bearings

Over time they will build up and stop the turbo for being lubricated properly.

well 12 yrs and not a problem with it being in anything from 1.8 eco legacys to imprezas pushing near 400bhp everyone has their views if you don't like then thats your opinion, but in standard cars it's fine and thats my view.
i did also state that if you start to abuse it then you would need to change it to something that can cope with extra TEMPERATURE.

I have all the service receipts for my MY00 classic and at every service the Subaru dealer has put in GTX magnatec...so if it is cr*p then why do the main dealers use it??
