I understand that Tim, just that the 6 point welded to the shell at the floor and A/B/C posts would be prety good IMHO.
Add a few tubes to compliment the base cage and the job's done in a week and £600.

Graham, this cage cost less than £600 and I could fit it in less than a week..

Im trying to get all the shell prep done before I start fitting the cage.. and also doing a little bit of body work along the way, so I dont have loads to do at the end..

Got some odd jobs and plumbing to do for someone tomorrow, then maybe get some wiring done at stevens dad's and brother inlaw this week, and then maybe also do the wiring for stevens dccd control unit, then my car

Are you creating a change of career David?
Good luck on the cage, will be very interesting to see it come together.

Having a really silly idea with the front part of the car, however it will have to wait until..

a) I know what Im doing
b) Can afford some metal
c) Have a big grinder
d) Its off the jig, otherwise it will fall on the floor

I've designed it already for you threads ago.

Go to a real drag racing chassis site and that will provide all the detail you need.
Spreading the load to the cage and the shell will be interesting.

Graham.

Great!
Need some good pics David. I feel i will be following you next Xmas but welding in my 6 pont with a few other tubes to keep weight down, but keeping the car just roadable.
Hate trailers.

A good Pro Stock car (say a Chevy Camaro) would be a good model for the scoob.
Picking up on the turret tops and the lower suspension wishbone points shouldn't be too hard, just keeping it all lined-up is the tricky bit.
Use pleany of Rose Joints to adjust things straight!

I think you can do things to an FIA cage if the rule allow it.
Loads of hill climbers fit FIA and modify them or make their own.

David, been looking at the TSL Group N exhaust system and they claim half the weight of a stock system, so another 5Kg for £1000

Paul, that came from R&D Motorsport, but I dont care as I need to add some bits to the cage.

Graham,

your assuming that all other exhausts are heavy try weighing some other ones and then you may not find the £1000 for 5kgs is worth it.. IYSWIM.

Besides my exhaust is allready light

I will be making my own for the red car.

no updated pics yet, as I have been doing stevens car with him.

Made a 'bracket or two' to hold the tubes on the lathe so I can profile the ends.. Its a little rough.. Cut the large angle Iron with a stihl saw

Bit of a **** pic, but Ill take some better when its in use

Other end (infact they are all ****!!)

Underside seam welding finally done - Rear arches to do still, these will be done after bead/sandblasting

Passenger wheel arch..

Bulkhead and underside

Partially visbile gearbox, courtesy of Scoobybits

Main Hoop Laid in car..

A Post footplates - Nice Fit too which is a plus

Like I need to say.. Main Hoop Foot Plate

Thingy bracket (fits on bottom of main hoop)

Strut Plates.

Slight alteration to the Floor.

Why have you drilled through the floor?
Does the tube end go into a box section??
Thought you would weld the triangulat plate to the floor, tube butted on top, fancy gusset over the lot all welded tight?

Nice job David.
What welder and amp range is it?

Graham,

I will, the tube is longer than it needs to be, so would rather get the measurement right, besides you need to drop it down through the car to weld over the top of the tubes meeting the top, the circles arent fully drilled out, so will weld back

Welders:

Clarke Professional range Mig 230A 0.6mm Welding Wire - May buy some 0.8 but doubt its necessary.

Cebora AC/DC Tig 200A Pure Argon Shield Gas, Selection of Tungstens and Rods.

Thanks David!
I'm sitting here waiting for AndyF to arrive to map the car...
Cage detail is good.

TIG welding the shell must be better than MIG. Wondered why the welds looked so flat.
