Of course another weight saving method is to remove the passenger seat. Thats good for 2 reasons.

1. You loose the weight of the seat / subframe / harness
2. You loose the weight of the passenger as once word gets around there is a quick french clutter box doing its stuff the queue will be long

I would suggest the 1.6 would struggle badly up kesselchen for sure. With average speeds of around 90MPH for a decent time the 'ring' is not only technical its about power too.

Higher torque figures would be helpful.

I've seen a video of you doing a lap in your 205 - good stuff for sure. Your 205 is something special and the sense of speed you must get in that car has to be incredible. Still not sure about the sticker accross the back window of the Impreza though!

The 1.9 was not significantly heavier at the front and had a wider rear track.

If you are uprating brakes and suspension the chances are that the nominal differences in handling will be immaterial anyway.

As above, the extra torque of the 1.9 will be welcome.

After 15 mins I approached a roundabout, joined the roundabout and continued round, I noticed to my left a 53 plate WRX in silver joining the roundabout, I noticed that he saw me (all my Nurburgring stickers make my car far from inconspicuous), with that, like a shot he was right up my jacksie. I, at this point was not planning to "race" him.

So, I was in second and pulled off the roundabout onto the dual carriageway, I was in the mood to boot it, so to speak. I did so with the WRX two car lengths behind. As I accelerated up through the gears I noticed the bonnet of the WRX behind lifting and dropping quite heavily as he went through the gears. This turned into a straight drag race......I pulled over to the left lane as I'd passed all traffic, as I did so the WRX decided to stay out in the over taking lane (becasue he'd overtake me right, of course - silly!!). His teeth were grit, his expression stern, his mood serious. Could he get past?? Could he fooock. He sat in the outside lane 2 car lengths behind me, his turbo hissing swishing pissshing and penelope bwwiissshing all the way. I eventually eased off at a spirited level of speed as my junction was fast approaching, he then continued on, I looked over with a rye smile - he however maintained his forward vision, stern and utterly unimpressed that his "supercar killer" just sat side by side with a 10 year old 306 GTi-6 with no other mods other than a de-cat and induction kit, and we both know the latter is purely for sound.

Lesson learned? The fastest car on planet earth still can't get past a 10 year old piece of 4 cylinder clutter with 95k miles on the clock........and we were 2 up.

What a car, what - a - car!!!

Happy to share this with you.
sounds like turbo envy to me wisssshhhhhhhhhh woooooshhhhh, the only sounds coming from a 306 are the sounds of oil leaking and fooked driveshafts

Threads like this crack me, its purile behaviour at its best

I had a tussle with a Scoob about a month back, silver classic shape fwiw, and whilst neither of us could get away in a straight I pulled small car lengths on him through some of the S-bends. When I reached my destination I waved out the side window, he tooted his horn and carried on his way.

We had a play, it was fun, the end. Why does it always have to end up in a slanging match?!

My 205 isnt anything special really. It only has 130BHP so std power. The sense of speed is both incredicle and petrifying. The joy I get from over stuff with much more BHP is intoxicating....

Your user name suggests you go there a bit? Have i Met or seen you before?

The sticker on the scoob was only there for my last trip and has gone now ....

We haven't met. I've only been once and that was very recently. I got two 5-lap ticket's each day I was there, and was looking to just start learning the circuit on this first trip. I enjoyed every minute of it and it was an awsome experience. I am planning my next trip for sometime in Jan and can see myself heading out there a couple of times a year from now on.

Purists did believe the 1.6 was better than the 1.9.

1.9 is the daddy for looks and the upper hand, but the 1.6 can be hustled along just as easily as the one nine.

Do you never get bored truth hurts?

I've owned both and found the 1.9 better in every respect. As for 'purists' it tends to be 'purists' who've been reading too many car mags rather than those who've had both.
Get bored? Do you? Same, same.

Hardly suprising really, the UK WRX's "only" have 225PS but weigh nearly 1400kg, have the aerodynamics of a brick wall and power sapping AWD.

Even big heavy repmobile's like the Mondeo or Vectra with similar powered V6's are 10-15mph quicker at the top end and would embarras a UK WRX on a straight at 60mph+

Cheers

As with everything, life gets in the way of me finishing it

Everything is in and fitted now, even ECU and wiring loom, its these bloody bike TB's thats causing the delay. If I hadnt spent so much on it up to now I would just buy some Jenveys.

Edit: it is doing its first trackday on 19th Nov at Elvington though, so need to get it finished now

Hiya Gary thanks for the sighting lap mate i think that made all the difference. I got video of the 9.07 but Cathy was trying hard not to be sick so most of it is of the dashboard. Had to slow all the way through Tiergarten due to Mercedes in the wall.

Ive put some proper brakes on now, hope to come out there again when time/funds allow. Are you still out there every other weekend

Looks like being March / April then. Atleast that gives plenty of time to 'prepare' the car.

Well I went in March this year for the first day of opening and it was fantastic.

Hot, Sunny, lovely clear laps....sheer bliss.

I have also visited in May 2003 when in snowed, and May 2004 when it pissed it down for 3 full days.

You take your chances whenever you go. August this year was nearly a complete wash out!

Dave

Thanks for the ***** comment, nice to know that on a thread about cars you want to comment on the merits of my *****?!?!? You do know there are plenty of more specific sites available on the net for material like that. HTH.

Jesus not this old chestnut again. if i hear one more waffle yarn about someone in a hot hatch ''doin'' a luke warm scooby i'll go insane!!

lads..they are the base spec performance model..they are a family tourer to be fair. you wanna race the sti in your 306..go for it and have your **** handed back in a hammock. theres nothing special in beating a bugeye wrx. i can't tell you how much of an **** kicking i gave a 306 gti-6 in a bone stock mr2 turbo with the same bhp as a bugeye. not forgeting for about 500 quid under the bonnet the impreza will take the 306 and wring its scrawny neck.

here..take this '' I'M A CLEVER BOY BECAUSE I BEAT BOG STANDARD WRX'' medal and go show it to your mates

personally i think the gti-6 is the blandest looking peugeot hot hatch of all time.it looks like the 1.4 lx. i'd have a 205 1.9 any day of the week..and have

Your not getting the point, its the rule of the underdog.

And whats a "base spec performance model", thats actually a "family tourer" Surely the GLX is the family tourer? The point is, std classic Scoob's were quick, so people expect the WRX to be the same.

If you bought a classic std Scoob you could pretty much beat anything out there, and with the WRX some owners still think the same way, so its funny to watch their expression when it happens

hmmmmmmm

I'm pretty sure the GTi6 0-60 is around 7 seconds, not that it means much. A stripped car (which is what senior has)would come in a good 300KG less than the lardy STi. This would make the power to weight figures interesting reading.
With 262bhp, against 167bhp the STi would be quicker, but in my reckoning, not by much.

Gary
