You couldnt be further from the trurth there, these fantatics would be doing this anyway, invasion or not. 9/11 was before the iraq invasion. People keep blaming this on it and its bull, these nuts would be doing this anyway

Oh FFS If that's all they've got to worry about then it's a pretty good day.

There have been crusades to the middle east since the Middle Ages. For the most part this has just got worse since the 2nd WW, Iraq, Afghanistan etc are just extra coals on the fire

"An earlier bomb threat targeting a mosque in east London has been given the all-clear by police."

Sounds like it was suspect bomb at this mosque rather than hiding terrorists. just taken this from Skynews.com

Apparently he was one of the w@nkers from yesterday. As suspected by others it looks like our muslim friends have been followed since yesterday.

I was just thinking this, in their minds if a bombs about to go off and theyre running towards it, takes some guts. maximum respect to those !

I thought the whole point though is having a visible (i.e. uniformed) presence as a deterent?

I'm not one for conspiracy theories but I suspect that Jasey is closer the mark.

Edited to add - They were definitely out mob-handed in day-glow jackets around Warren Street and Great Portland Street stations this morning.

Totally agree with you.
Hope we don't have a case of mistaken identity on our hands, though.

That would be unthinkable, its reported that they only chased him as he jumped over the barrier and ran towards the train, maybe he was looking for a free ride although anyone who's thick enough to do that on this state of presence then they are asking for trouble

According to eye witness on the train they bundled on top of him:

Mr Whitby, told BBC News: "I was sitting on the train reading my paper.

"I heard a load of noise, people saying, 'Get out, get down'!

"I saw an Asian guy run onto the train hotly pursued by three plain-clothes police officers.

"One of them was carrying a black handgun - it looked like an automatic - they pushed him to the floor, bundled on top of him and unloaded five shots into him.

"I saw the gun being fired five times into the guy - he's dead." Passenger Briony Coetsee said: "We were on the Tube and then we suddenly heard someone say, 'Get out, get out' and then we heard gunshots."

I also wondered what made them chase him. Did they have intelligence on him or was it because he ran ? Apparantly he had a thick padded jacket on, unusual for hot weather ?

You will note that I didn't mention an invasion, I believe that the groups involved now feel they are in a position to need international infulence and that they have the infrastructure in place to deliver this, as pointed out that is what terrorism is about. So, they are going to use a small military force to gain political infulence and control over democratic majorities that they do not deserve and they are going to use weak or sympathetic governments to deliver this. To achive this they have to soften those weak governments up a little.

I would suggest that any city where the Mayor has been a keen supporter of terror and the PM invites known terrorists for tea would be a good place to start in such a quest. They'll not take much softening up.

Of course the invasion is a useful recruiting tool, of that there is no doubt, and there is a long tradition of martyrs dying for their country so it works in the favour of the terrorist. However, as you say, it is likely that plans for this action have been in place for some time. There have, for example, been close ties between Irish and Arab terrorists and countries (Lybia supplied arms to the IRA for example and Israel had connections with Loyalist terrorists) for a long time now so there are strategic alliances in place that have been developed over years, decades even. If I were an Aarb terrorist wanting to bring explosives, or a dirty bomb, into London then I would bring it in through Ireland (where security is low key and an Arab terror threat low) using existing supply and transport networks developed over years of struggle against the British and I would use alliances I had forged in the past to help me get it in. This is no amazing insight on my part, it is just a simple logical approach using the resources available to the terrorist.

Interesting thing - what are your options as an armed police officer running down a suspected suicide bomber?
- Try to identify if he actually is a bomber?
- Try to disable the guy?
- Try to kill the guy before he detonates the suspected bomb?

You really are in a lose-lose situation because if the guy is a bomber he is intent on killing himself and others so you need to shoot and kill the guy or totally disable him when he is away from anybody. Unfortunately if he turns out to be just a fare-dodger then it's a pretty heavy burden to bear.

I have to agree, these guys have my total admiration for a job I could just not do!

too bad, as roughly half the muslims living in UK view themselves as muslim 1st and british 2nd they can always go and live in a country in which its culture does not offend them. i would not dream of living in pakistan, for example, as i do not wish to live the islam live.

Is that a bad thing if the guy is proved to have had a bomb?

You speak a lot of sense, my apologies for throwing you in with all the tree huggers jumping on the bandwagon that its because of invasions.
