hi ppl
just got back from your drag way.
my best time of the day was a 13.37 @ 102.19mph
you guys have to do the next one. i started off with a 14.44 @ 98.94 but after 5 runs i as @ 13.3
got some pix and video footage. i beat a mr2 turbo, 206, lost to a mr2 (totaly fluffed the start), audi running about 5,00000000hp and beat a scooby.
vix cars fixed but we just took mine. the strip is only about 45mins from grimsby too so we will be going again soon but it will be santapod on the 25th i think next month.

hi lads,
really bad misfire is the problem with my car. engine light flashed 3 times then went out and stayed out. DT thinks it might be plugs or coil packs or something silly like that, but its head damage ill tell you. Ive just done a search on general tech and it says on there my symptons could be the fuel pressure recolator what ever that is . Has anyone heard of that?

Stu,
Have you had owt to do with coil packs, Acko's car has started missing badly, he only had it serviced a week ago.
Check engine light came on and flashed three times then went off.
How are they attached to the plug,?
Cheer's,
Lee DT.
it went very well.
lee im glad you now know how nippy that 106 really is. lol[/QUOTE]

morning all,
well what a **** day today with no motor.
Does anyone know if you can reset the ecu on newage cars?
Ive just read that you cant do it yourself and they have to be done in the garage on the proper machines. Dont know how true this is but it sounds bollo##s to me

id say dissconect the battery for an hour paul. and as for the coils. mine are ushed on the end of the plug and have a 13mm bolt to hold them on to stop them falling off the side.
i had some **** before with what i thought was my coils. i took them off and wraped the ends (plug ends) with electrical insulating tape and it cured my problem
not sayong it will work for you but worth a look.

Pretty sure it is Stu, If the car carries on running after you dis'connect the MAF then the ECU is compensating for the fault and not using the MAF, problem is its second guessing the air flow and thus it gets the mixture either too lean or too rich resulting in the car misfiring or worst case if you are caining it detonation.

but you know how to put the ****s up me by saying those dreaded words "DETONATION" WTF !!!!!!!!
detonation = pre ignition of fuel in the cylinders m8. the fuel ignites when the piston is still on its way up. this will blow the **** out of your pistons eventualy (i think).
dont get worried m8 i bet its **** all!

Don't panic bud,
You did the right thing and backed off as soon as you felt the problem, your car probably has a built in safety function to combat this problem like the "limp home mode" the ECU can go into upon fault detection.
like I said to you earlier some of the earlier cars MY 97's etc had a common problem with failing MAF'S.
Just a shame we could not find the lead's to clip together to find the fault code.

car went in today at 4pm back to tetney service station.
i had Catterals mobile unit round this morning to read the ECU and there are 3 faults that were found.
ive got a missfire on cylinder No4( possibly faulty plug, coil or leads)
then the next 2 probs are related to it but there not damaged
MAF and the inlet air intake what ever that is.That is what the guys machine put out as the probs.
The ECU closed the MAF and the air intake down and the ECU went into limp home mode to save any further damage being done, but because the ECU closed them down it now comes up on the reading as a fault, but will have to wait and see if its done any damage in the chamber.
Do you all get where im coming from with all that because i just baffled myself .

It sounds' like I was pretty close then bud,
Plugs don't usually pack up especially when new, they usually deteriorate over time, I think its your coil pack or the fitting of it.
Your car ECU has saved the engine from further damage by limiting everything.
Your MAF (MASS AIR FLOW METER) and inlet air intake are probably one and the same thing.
If you'd fooked a piston due to the plug breaking up then I'd have thought it would be smoking all the time which it is'nt.
It sounds like its nowt to worry about.

So tomorrow there clearing the ECU again for me because the light was still on then he's taking it out for a drive for an hour and if all's well we should get the car back straight away.
But will i ever trust the car again? I just dont know, so it might be going.
come on the EVO Viii
Well it aint the car then is it bud,
Just unlucky when the mechanic put it back on some ****e was in there and now you know your ECU is doing its job and shutting down at the hint of a problem.
Are you getting some money off due to the ****e in the coil pack then, it did'nt put itself there.
