Not quite it isn't.
In the Bulk charging state, the Optimate holds a constant current of 0.6A, whereas the Accumate charges at 1.2 amps.
This makes the Accumate more suitable for larger (i.e. car) batteries.

What worries me about the Optimate is the recovery stage. It can charge at up to 20 Volts on a badly discharged battery. What will that do to your cars electronics?

Anyway, they are both currently £34 + VAT + delivery (~£45 total) from www.accumate.co.uk, where I got mine.

You don't seem to understand the relationship between current and voltage, the optimate 3 will actually go up to 22v if necessary but it's at a very low current and is perfectly safe. Lets face it they've sold 30,000+ of these so I think they know what they are doing.

Price wise you are happy that you paid £1 more than I sell them for and mine comes with a free wall bracket worth £10.
You do the maths

The accumate is for car batteries up to 75Ah and the Optimate is designed for bike batteries up to 28Ah.

The STi has a 48Ah battery as std, so the Accumate is required £44 inc VAT and delivery.

just thought i would at my bit
wrx sti uk (MY04) (5.5k miles)
on its 4th battery by dealer
after the third they said it was the tracker not going into sleep mode & draining batt, i now have had a 1hr sleep/shutdwn brd fitted by trakstar themselves (good service came to work, showed me all etc)
touch wood ok? but i dont trust the battery situation these days and on a monday morning after a week or two on hols?
so i now use a draper battery master trickle feed mini charger (no need to disconnect battery) on a timer plug for a few hours per night when i leave the car for longer than say 5 days?

also when i told the mechanic about leaving side lights on, he said it wouldnt be enough to kick the brain into charging? and suggested rear demister?!

anyway just thought i would mention it

cheers

Only been sitting for a few days.

If this happens when I'm not here my wife will kack her pants, especially if it's in the middle of the night.

My UK300 never done this an it had a tracker.

I am going to try a new battery under warranty.

At least no-one can nick it if it doesn't start.

Subaru UK should supply us with battery packs and / or trickle chargers!!

Cheers
