By all means move abroad but just don't expect things to magically improve because they won't. I've lived abroad in various countries and all have their plus and minus points but believe me, this country is not as bad as people make out.

I don't expect it to be roses. I have a distinct and fundamental problem with this once great country, my problem is of respect, standards, the way people are. No matter where I go in France it's so very different with regards to that.

Everything else I'm sure there are similar issues, some things will no doubt be worse.

That's par for the course if places are liked by everyone though. The prices HAVE to be inflated, because if they weren't then EVERYONE would move there and then the place would be ruined!

Imagine what would happen if a seaside village in Devon suddenly became priced on a par with Slough. It would end up as Slough mark 2. Doesn't bare thinking about!

Everywhere sells for about double what it's actually "worth".

Maybe, but that's different from what you said before, "everywhere I like is over-priced". There must be places you prefer to Northampton for similar money?

Everywhere is over-priced. I stand corrected.

The only places I'd be happier living I cannot afford. If I moved out on my own the best mortgage I could realistically hope for is about 120k. That would buy me a caravan.

France? I don't think France is the country for you if you're looking for more respect from others. They have more than their fair share of immigrants who can't/won't speak French and you'll find that it's just as much dog eat dog there as it is in the UK. French colleagues complain about similar things to the English, taxes/unions/lack of consideration/immigrants/ etc etc - different country, similar issues.

Do you own a house at the moment, or are renting, sharing or letting etc? Why not do the same in an alternative location? What I'm getting at is that, if its the location you hate, there must be alternative locations in the country that will afford you a lifestyle better suited to you for the same living arrangements.

Unless you've got your eyes on Buckingham palace!

I know about the immigrant issues there. Algerians and Black Africans predominantly. However there are so many more unspoilt areas that remain "French". Not many places in England are English now.

Lets go up the Country....

London
Wellingborough ( )
Leicester
Birmingham
Bradford
Manchester

....all bloody melting pots, growing and spreading out.

France is so much more spread out you can A: Get away from it and B: Safe in the knowledge you'll stay away for it for the extent of your lifetime anyway.

A downside of the clueless Brit, so ignorant that the "foreigners are *****" mentality prevails.

A major scar on our sense of humour.

Anothing thing I hate that really gets to me

Cleanliness....this country is FILTHY!

Every public place, public toilets or public building, even private toilets in pubs, restaurants. Hell even the pubs themselves and hospitals - they are all disgusting.

When compared to many countries I've been too - where on average you don't see splatted toilets, floaters and urine soaked floors. The only exception is British Holiday resorts...hmmm I wonder why that is?

I suppose it ties in with respect of the average British public - they have non so treat everywhere like sombody is going to clean up after them.

Thank you.

Someone else summed it up beautifully "litter everywhere and drab looking" or something like that. Nobody gives a **** anymore. No standards. Abroad its so much nicer, here its the battle of the satellite dish/xmas decorations on the house.

Clearly this wasn't a suggestion worthy of a reply. I give up then... hand your passport in on your way out!

It's very worthy.

I just don't like England really. The country is nice, physically. It's just developing acne that's all.
