Do all sti wagons come with those larger wings? Or are they aftermarket? The reason i ask is I'm about to buy a front clip here in the states and this GF8 sti has all the tell tail signs of an sti wagon except for two things. The wings are the wrx style and the intake manifold isn't red. Is it an sti? Here are some pictures:

Default Whens and STi Wagon Not an STi Wagon

Hi,

yes all STi wagons come with the larger rear wings as standard. However, it is easy to just buy ther bolt on bits to make any wrx look like a STi. Even as far buying the stickers for the rear and wing badges, as well as interior, bumpers, sideskirts, lights, dials, pedals, even stuff like the intercooler. So as ylou see it is easy to make a lookalike or for the more dishonest a fake.

look at me, I made an STi 8 wagon that even fooled the dealers, thought I had it imported from Japan. I took it in for its FOC 2nd service and they laughed at me and said, its an import we are not touching it, I told them to look again and check up on their model range, subaru never made a version 8 blobeye. the Version 7 bugeye was the last of the STi wagons.

Here was our lokalike version 8, all the bits are borrowed from a Version 8 saloon to keep it authentic looking.

As trails say the only way you will know is that you MUST get the Chassis model number from the plate under the bonnet.

Train spotter mode on

.... However this can still be confusing as STI ver1 and ver2 wagons were not true STi's in the sense that Ver 3 onwards were. v1 and v2 STi wagons were tuned WRX's not handbuilt engines like the v3 and above.
The red manifolds were ony introduced from '95 on, on the V2 STi's. The clear lights were only on later models too, as well as interior, was still wrx on some early ones.

Another confusing thing is that although the v1 & v2 were marketed at STi's they were more of a limited edition WRX with a few goodies thrown on rather than as i mentioned a ground up hand build from STi. This is born out by again looking at the model type number on the FAQ trails mentioned, you will notice the STi v1 & 2 will appear withe the model code '8' denoting them a WRX not an STI ... only Sep.96-Aug.97 MY97 V3 onwards had the correct model code of 'E' and not '8' denoting them as an STi Variant.

Confused

Grab the Model type number and post up here and we can research it for you

As always this information is correct to the best of my knowledge, but I accept I may be wrong and somebody else can correct me and point you in the right direction if so. I dont confess to know everything, just pick up bits of info you read, but can never be certain if that info is correct either, but this is what I have always understood.

Anyway, hope you get it sorted and get that model type pronto

Thumbs up

Hi everyone.

Thanks for you comments, and thank you 'smiles' for the idea

I have a TD05H 16g turbo.

My mudflaps fit fine with my splash guards. It's not 100% but might need to take off my splash guards for a better fitting.

No 'smiles' these rims are mine not rays lol. Had them painted myself as i was getting silly price's to have them re-painted. No bad for a first time i guess

Thanks 'smiles'

These are STI rims which i got with the car, and were gold. I think they are from a STI Ver 2 or 3.

By the way i have a forge type single piston dump valve and a forge manual boost controller for sale looking for £70 for both, very good condition and working order.

the early STi did NOT have a red inlet manifold, also no bigger wings on the back of the wagon.
That has the tell tales of an STi.. the intercooler is the sti item.. it has the STi badge on the alternator belt cover.. has the STi stut brace etc..

So it should be an STi..
