basically on this thread ur getting a mass amount of opinions all differing due to something like the picture quality being down to the eye of the beholder really. Just go out and see as many plasma screens as u can or feel necessary too and make ur own mind up.

Been looking around, and I think it's a toss up between the 32" Philips LCD, and a 42" Panasonic PWD6 plasma (I will fit if I wall mount it). Just need to find somewhere where I can them running properly now...

If you have time on your side it might be worth waiting a month or so, the Panasonic 7 series is out at the end of September in theory so perhaps the 6 series will drop in price.

most places including where i work just stick them up and turn them on, i doubt u'd find a place who has them properly set up. our ones are running off a dvd player using S-VIDEO ffs.

 

This is very true, and thats probably at the better end of the spectrum, most major stores will all 200 odd TV sets in the store set up to run from one single RF feed which isnt going to tell you anything about picture quality.

I believe Av-Sales.com have a dedicated testing facility set up with a PW6 installed with proper component connections and a decent DVD last time I heard but not sure where in the country they are.

 

A local specialist should set them up especially for you. We have Image Audio and a branch of Sevenoaks whom both have (several) dedicated auditioning rooms set up much like ordinary living rooms. They'll usually set up a selection of chosen products in the correct way so you can assess them at their full potential in an environment as near to an average home as possible. Of course, services like these cost and this is often reflected in their prices, just like the cost of good customer service I mentioned earlier. I know I am guilty of utilising these services and then going and buying the products cheaper off the net, but when they're out of business where do we go for quality products, sold in a professional way and backed up with expert and dedicated aftersales services ? Plus, it feels that bit more special when an unpushy salesman gives what seems like limitless time and knowlegable advise, even to the point of recommending cheaper products which they honestly believe are a better prospect within your system, along with a cup of coffee in comfortable surroundings. Much better than some spotty chav min wage teenager half heartedly spouting how good the most profitable own brand made in China for tuppence is whilst demonstrating it in an aircraft hanger surrounded by 20 other flat panels, 80 CRT's and a couple of hundered fridges cookers and toasters. With a product as expensive and potentially troublesome as a plasma, I think I will be prepared to pay a little over the odds to make sure I make the right decision and have some comeback if it all goes pear shaped.

personally i dont agree with "viewing rooms" myself, generally set up in a way that flatters the screen/sound quality of a system, so when u actually do get it home u'll be dissapointed

 

So you prefer 200 acre aircraft hangers with more ambient distraction than Heathrows Terminal 2 ? Only way to better a good demo suite is a home dem, which a good dealer is normally happy to offer on a reasonable purchase to a regular customer.
