pflowers - I think you're missing the point Tiggs is making. He's not saying you haven't had a bad experience of them, he's saying his experience of them has been fine (as has mine). The point he's making is a lot of people jump on the anti BMW bandwagon with their comments, with no experience of the cars what so ever.

Hi I understand that people have views but no reason behind them, but I think you are missing my point also. I said my experience was bad but accept that others may have been good. Tiggs is saying his experience was good and as my view is in the minority it therefore must be discounted.

The majority of people I know who have had experience with BMW cars and the dealers would put Tiggs view in the minority.

I used to be BMW's biggest fan and would not look at anything else, but since being persuaded to buy the WRX I have realised that in my experience BMW cars do not live up to the image they have and there is better available for less money ( not just Subaru ) But this is my opinion and I would not try to dictate what others should think or do ( unlike some )

Actually, I don't believe they are. Many posts on the subject are aimed at the drivers rather than the car. Many are not anti-bmw per se, but anti-bmw-drivers. And we've all certainly had experience of them!!

Exactly, As I stated I think they are good cars just seem to be driven badly.

To be fair I probably notice it more as they are beemers, and yeah I did go off on a rant abit but I have not actually driven one so can only go on my experience day to day. I have no doubt that I woul love driving the 330ci especially with the straight six (funkii munkii ), its fast, handles and looks ok. Just IMO they are well over priced and common as ya like.

my point was that i am getting a Z4 and i know i'll get good service as i allready have experienced it...i will use the same dealer as the 540 so i know- from my experience- that i'll be happy.

if i were to post "im getting a Z4...good idea?" some ppl would say NO- BMW and BMW service is ****........however, i will ignore these views and get one anyway based on my own opinion.........as i posted.

My experience with BMW has been poor, not on one car and one dealer but five cars and three dealers, what am I supposed to say ???

Not at all, I am just happy for myself that I am open minded enough to not buy a car because of the badge on the bonnet like some people on here.

Your contribution to this thread appears to be to wind up others about their posts, if you want to contribute perhaps your views on the 330ci would be more appropriate...................i'm waiting with interest.

One of my first cars bought after passing my UK test was a 1997 BMW 5 series. It came from main dealers, was good history and only 50000 miles. It was old 528 with problem liner for engine. Needed new engine under warranties. Air conditioning failed and had some trim problem as well.
Other than that was good and BMW dealer was nice, at £70 of hours labour I would be glad!

Owned a 330ci sport for 2 years - fabulous car in almost every respect.

I found the dealerships to be good (Damon Hill @ Leamington Spa and Sytners @ Solihull).

Performance good (not fantastic), easy low down torque, nice exhaust note.

Looks for me were great - 18" alloys, barely any space above the rubber, which looks the business.

Handling great fun if you take DSC off (Dynamic Stability Control).

Boot space more than adequate (certainly more than my STI and doesn't suffer from the space robbing springs/levers that attach the boot lid to the body).

Fuel economy around 26-27 mpg, on mix of motorway and thrashing it around a/b roads. Not bad for 3litres eh!

But....

far too many about. To feeling of exlusivity, although does feel very nice when inside the car. According to recent figures, more 3 series cars are sold than modeo's now = number 9 in the UK sales charts - yikes.

Heavy - good for safety of course, but blunts performance too much (weigh just over 1500kgs).

All in all, a great all round package that pleased my mrs, but a bit short on entertainment and that "adrenaline" factor you get with fast scoobies.

...oh and a new one comes out next yr, 3 series will be saloon, 4 series will be coupe. 3 litre engine will be tweaked to deliver 250 odd bhp and around the same torque as now - 220 lbs/ft odd.

Looks even better imho.

Cheers

Gubbins.

That comment certainly was not directed at you, good luck and I hope everything is OK with the car, enjoy.

Well, hes just bought it it to work and it is a stunning looking thing...its only done 7K and is like new

Hes chuffed with it

..unlike the sales man who only realised his P/X (172 Clio) was a import when doing the handover with him.....He got 10K P/X which is what he paid for it 11 months ago.......He did tell him it was an import last week!

Cheers

Not a wind up, your both agreeing with each other, but seem to want to rant on.

Re the car, I think they are a very good car, but not especially good value, as there over priced and your paying a large premium for the badge, and before you ask yes I have driven one, I thought it was great, but you could buy a better car and save a lot of money, there, my bit, I'm going away for a week so I will leave you to get on with this very constructive descussion.
