I think Paul Merton is good, although the real gems don't come as regularly as with someone like Paul O'Grady, Julian Clary, Jonathan Ross etc, if we're talking pure improvisational comedy. But i think it works well in combination with Ian Hislop. And Boris Johnson is by far the best alternative to Angus they've found.

(And i'm late 30s. Still interested to know who V45DSM considers to be "really" funny...)

Well, I like Peter Kay, Ricky Gervais, Avid Merrion & Stephen Fry and shows such as Black Adder, Red Dwarf & The Day Today.

Harry Hill's TV programme thats on late night is hillareous. Took me a while to warm to him but now he cracks me up, very funny guy.
