It's all this brake drum theory that is the very reason why you shouldn't drive too fast backwards in a Series Land Rover fitted with twin leading shoe brakes

I found that out the hard way !

My old mini 998 was the same. Was thundering along backwards in the college car park aiming to do some very impressive parking and WTF no brakes at all.
Ended up inches away from a very solid brick wall, so yeh drums are crap when going backwards.

dare i say ***??

i dont have any problems stopping in reverse....

better set up!!! discs on front drums on rears...

Pete has it occured to you that the reason your hand brake dosent work in reverse, is that your 30mph applications have glazed the pads and no end of future applications will make it better...

only course of action is to book it into the dealers for some work...
