I got a missus who works on a cancer ward and recieved tonnes of awfull stories, plus a lot of nagging helps. We nearly split up over it but I figured she was more important than a little white stick that is tryin to kil me.
I gave up the ciggies in may this year. Mrs Peanuts had wanted me to for ages and I thought that stopping in my twenties was better than thirties or forties etc. This coincided with round about the time that we could reasonably and relatively comfortably afford an Impreza.
So...
I went out and part financed my scoob at the same monthly cost as my smoking. (saving back a few quid for mods
)
everytime I thought I needed a cigarette I went to the window and looked at the car or went for a drive, craving gone.
I did keep a single cigarette in a glass in the cupboard tho, the logic being that if I really, really needed a cigarette then I wouldnt have to go out and buy a whole packet.
its still in the cupboard.
I can taste things now that I couldnt before, food has taken on a whole new experience for me, tea tasted much better and I can now smell smoke on my friends when they come round, not nice.
stick with it, it makes sense.

Sorry if I ofend anyone but IMHO smoking is for stupid and weak willed people.
In this day and age if you haven't got the common sense to realise it's dangerous and likely to kill you in the long run your either stupid or you've never seen someone die slowly from a smoking related Cancer.
I lost my grandfather and grandmother through smoking and if you could show a film of the horrible degeneration of a human being maybe that would wake up these people to what might face them in the future.

Chip.
Have not read all the thread eClaire, and I see someone has mentioned it, but the Alan Carr book is THE way to give up. It is not rocket science, and when you read it, you will think it is stuff you know, but it does reaffirm stuff for you.
It has worked for many people I know, and is endorsed by friends in the medical world (the unhealthiest profession you could possibly meet).
Buy it, read it, and you'll be sorted. It makes you think about smoking (and why you do it).
Trust me....I know you do - you know your Uncle Ricky talks sense
Footnote on Zyban. Yes, can cause fits, and other side-effects. However, like patches, it is trying to *medically* cease your addiction. It will return. You have to sort yourself out *mentally* to understand your addiction and how to resolve it.
