PTMW

Unlucky, mate. If it had been me, though, I wouldn't have hung about if he had already wandered into my lane. I'd have either dropped back or pressed on a bit and put some distance between us.

Bummer!

Don't want to sound sanctimonious, but after a few near misses of the same thing I try never to get beside a truck if there's not enough space to get past and clear.
I think it's all too easy for a truckist to sneeze or fart or nudge the wheel as they're trying to strangle a hitch-hiker and before you know it, they're on top of you.

Hope you manage to get it sorted without too much hassle.

Dave

p.s. Before loads of truckies start flaming me, I realise that the majority of drivers are consumate professionals who allways pull over before stangling hitchers.

A14 - Between A1(M)& M11 - 18:35 - Conditions drizzling & surface spray - car in front approx 3 car lengths (guess - but safe distance anyway) - speed 55mph max - car behind me as well...

Appreciate what you're saying but the traffic wasn't flowing very fast & it may have been that I'd actually gone past a bit, then had to slow down 'cos of flow. I travel that very busy road stretch virtually every day - notoriously busy stretch - and if that is the speed of the flow of traffic, then little I could do about it. Loads of lorrys on it. I was probably more to the right of the lane as well, as I try and keep an eye ahead as much as possible.

Its not only the volume of traffic on that stretch, more often or not the inside lane is nose to tail artics. Theres several cameras aswell so the outside lane never moves at much more than 70 and you get muppets braking down to 50 for 70mph cameras causing the traffic to bunch. Never being next to one is simply not feasible. Why that stretch wasn't made 3 lanes when it was built 10 years ago is beyond me - its been absolutely full since day one.

Hope you get it sorted Puff.

Ouch...at least you are OK, the car from the pics is repairable. Though it could have been much worse as you said "central reservation"..

Hope it gets sorted soon..........

They're going to widen it as well Saw the plans a while back in the papers - I really, really, really don't want to be commuting to Peterborough every day when that lots starts happening

Hey Cuz....if you need a hand sorting the claim...I'm sure you know who to call ... we have an excellent German speaking claims department and being family I'm sure we'd be more than happy to try and assist...

this is just another example of stupid englishman
brit trucks ARE required to have extra mirrors whilst in belgium/netherlands ect
we also have to pay there road tax worked out to a daily rate and they fine english lorry drivers literaly thousands of euros for offences while the muggy brits just do nothing to them, i personaly have been fined 6,102.00 euros in spain for tachograph irregularitys almost £5,000 at the time I know that VOSA catching a spaniard doing the same will park him up for 24 hrs,
we are the mugs of europe sorry guys but englishmen abroad stand for easy targets
forget the fact that we saved all these ******* from the gerrys....should have let em have the lot of them...
