MOT - will these pass?
i used to shoe the Pug in tyres from a place called "the Tyre Shop" (imaginatively) locally for £9 per tyre. They didn't match (ie 4 diff brands) but were fine - somehow i think i might trade up a bit for the scoob.
I was right - with the exception of the mandatory lights, the testers manual says:-
'Any additional position lamps are optional and are not included in the inspection.'
Sorted

If you disconnect the driving lights I dont think they will be a problem. The tester was not happy about my Cibies coming on with the headlights on full beam so he pulled the connector off the relay and pretended they were not there any more!
Pete, my FI's have been on for 8000 miles and the wear rate shows I can expect 20,000 plus from them. And I do go fast round corners

I thought tyres had to have 1.6mm across 75% of the width but also have visible tread across the entire width? Meaning even if you have loads of tread in the centre 90% if either edge is worn to the point where there is no visible tread remaining then it will fail.
Unless the law has changed, that was a few years back.

Thats what I thought Paul, BUT, looking at the MOT testers manual - it actually STATES that the edges can be BALD and STILL a pass!!
It covers the central 3/4 of the tyre - so you can have BALD tyres on the edge 1/8 of the width.
A 205mm tyre needs the central 154mm to be 1.6mm and above - the rest of the width, 25.5mm each side can be BALD!! thats an inch in old money!!
However, sense caught hold of me as I was measuring them and shouted in my ear - 'If you are in so much doubt that you are sat in the rain measuring them THEN REPLACE THEM!!'
So I did!!
By the way, Leslie, can you tell me what the Treadwear Rating is as marked on your Goodyears?? The Michelin Pilot Sport is 220 - I think you might find the Goodyears are around 140??

I know, I know!!
I went to look for a replacement - couldn't find one, so, decided to hang onto the Scoobie - take out the extended warranty and off we go again for another 24months!!
The Nissan 350Z might just tempt me!!
So, bought a little summer sports car instead!! Why buy another new car and lose £10,000 over 3 years?? Madness, this game!!
So, my vast wealth will go into other ventures
Where do you operate Gluestick??

Only just seen your question Pete, Never heard about treadwear rating before! Its says Treadware 280 Traction AA Temperature A. They are Goodyear F1's D3's. They certainly hang on round corners, wet or dry and the wear rate as measured gives me an estimated 20,000 to 1.6 mm.

I had this a similar thing on my old car, my nearside front
was virtually bald on the outside edge but had loads left
in the centre. It sailed through the MOT I asked the guy about
it and he said 'Not near the middle mate, so it's not a problem'
And I can pretty much say it's down to over-zealous roundabouting
cos it's happened on every car i've owned
