911 turbo is in my eyes one of the best cars you can buy, and one of the best looking, that GT2 earlier on in the thread looks awesome.
You really can't compare and evo to one of these, there is some real crap being said on this thread
I've been to the ring and was amazed at the rate of some of the gt3's that were there, there was also an evo7 there which my mate in his 280bhp mr2 was keeping up with, yes both were trying as they got out and had a chat at the end, discussing the lap, can't see another 100bhp or so making the evo keep up with the porkers

Hi Cammy,
You are so caught up in the hype living in Germany that you have lost your judgement.
I spoke to an engineer from Ruf; he thought that their Porsche was the fastest thing on the planet
I'll try to make a video of my standard turbo Evo wasting a GT2 if you like

The Ruf CTR Yellowbird was the fastest car in the world when it came out for reaching 211mph. This thread is hilarious, some of the things people come out with

Sorry, but the Ruf probably IS the fastest car on the planet (OK, maybe the Veyron will beat it) and it's a production vehicle. You can drive it to the shops, take it on holiday, take it to the Ring.

It's entirely possible that you could get an Evo up to 350, 450, or indeed 650 horsepower, but that's not really the point. The fact is that you're pitting a 4 door saloon against a sports car ... for the money you'd need to spend on an Evo in order to make it to beat a Ruf, you might as well buy a Ruf in the first place.
And please get a grip on yourself. Your STANDARD Evo (max 300hp) wasting a GT2?

opinion on the MLR forum seems to be a bit divided on this one, particularly on the "sold EVO7 for Porker" thread.

This definately sounds like a thread where non-Porsche owners are trying to justify their sub-20k cars.
When deciding my next car, my choice was between a Porsche 996 Turbo (LHD), Noble M12 or a Nur Spec R34. Top of my list was a Turbo, the only reason I didn't get one was quite simply because I couldn't afford a RHD version and, well, we all know what ppl think of LHD cars in UK.
Having been out with David in his GT2, I can honestly say it's worth every penny.

The quote about a standard evo being just a little slower than a porker, well if that is the case then as i can beat my mates evo6 in a straight line in my Rover GTi Turbo does that mean it is as fast as a porker
The porker would kill an evo in a straight line, i really wasn't that impressed with the straight line speed of one, saying that though i would love an evo still

Standard Evo only as fast from 60-100 as a lowly 944 Turbo I think.
Using Evo magazines test figures.
So is my 13 year old car as fast as a 911 turbo?

Not seen many evos doing 0-100mph in less than 8.3 seconds like the gt2 will do all day long. and NO an evo 7 extreme S is not faster than a gt2 i should know as i test drove the ralliart/extreme car when deciding what to buy next, wouldnt even have chosen it over my modded 22B.
You evo guys kill me!!!

I said the Ruf was probably the fastest car int the world. OK, you can name some faster, but so can I.
And I note that when you said standard turbo Evo you meant that the turbo is standard but the rest isn't. Ok then, but the comparison is somewhat biased.
One question remains. Do you honestly think that your car is faster round corners than even a bog-standard 911 Turbo?
If so (and I really don't want to appear insulting) you could consider a job as Iraq's information minister
But it also shows how little you know about the two cars we are talking about. A Porsche turbo isnt fast, and especially not for the money it costs. Seriously.
Show me the proof and I'll apologise, but until then I have to believe you're either crazy or deluded.

We were talking about the 911 turbo, right?
The most extreme production version of this is either the GT2 or one of the Ruf variants. There may be a few cars which can go 5 mph more than the Ruf (which I believe does 215mph) but they're either one-off specials or cost so much money that they're out of reach of everyone, even millionaires.
As the Ring appears to be the only twisty (lots of corners for your car to take advantage of) road which you can drive at a truly insane speed without dying (though a lot do anyway) I suggest you post up your time.
I'd be surprised if you can beat Walter Rohrl's (non-turbo) time, but if you can then Bernie Ecclestone might just be knocking on your door.

Sorry Claudius, I was laughing at you not with you. I believe Rufs cars are deemed production, they are a marque in their own right, you don't get a tuned 911 in return for your money, you get a Ruf, which is why they're not badged as a Porsche. Jun are just a tuning company. It was 1987 that the CTR reached 211mph making it the worlds fastest production car back then.

Wish Cossie was here, he could just throw a whole new light on this 'discussion'......Just passed local Mitsubishi dealership on the way home, big queue outside with punters trading in Porsches for nippy(sic) Taxis PMSL....

Wow!
I started this thread simply making the comment that I d been out in my mates 996 turbo and what an amazing car I thought it was!
Just deleted a massive reply, am shortening it to this:
996 turbo is a simply awesome car, like my opininion or not, if you havent driven it dont slate it. If you had £80k to spend on a car I bet youd consider one too..............think of the bigger picture

###There is good reason for the cost differential between everyday cars and 996,GT2,GT3 and 911 Turbo's. Its down to quality of components, R&D, Engineering standards,Performance capabilities and don't forget after sales service.###
Funny... I thought the damned things cost so much because the design was a throwback from the SKODAs' of the 30's and they needed to put all the faults 'right', but frankly you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear... but have been trying and convincing the unwashed masses they have succeeded for 30+years...
From the moment they had to move the rear wheels back when the 912 turned into the 911 and the power of the 6cylinder 2ltr 150hp? was fitted the game has been 'sort the fvck-ups as you go stylee'.
Let's face it... Porsche themselves think it's crap (they have tried to kill it 4 times) but it makes so much money thanks to the nouveaus out there prepared to either fulfill a fantasy or want the name they swallow their pride and try to perform motoring alchemy... it really is a POS wrapped in pretty clothes and covered in deodourant... scratch the surface and it still smells of ****...hahahahaha
