Hi Redkop, I really need to test my new tyres, but Clare and I are moving soon, so I am trying to keep a bit of cash spare, apparatly I have to buy new leather sofa's or something

Rich, I am aware of a P1 and what it can do. I reckon one dude at Donno in his P1, motec, roll cage knows what my 13 year old can do too

faster then mines on a 1/4, mine does it in 13.97. dunno my 0-100 mph time, gotta be faster then new wrx, they are around 14 secs i think. P1 must be alot faster.

But can u seriously beat a P1 round a track, i remember the audi A4 4wd touring cars kicked *** in the championship when they first entered against the 2wd cars.

Anyway *** the track, for me it counts on the A and B roads to work every morning, id get a westfield if i wanted a track motor.

Anyway read the thread, its not about the fastest car, its about best overall car, and i still think the scoob wins when compared to a sunny.

O.K you scooby guys heres some dyno results.

http://www.wrx.org.au/tech/980214dyno_day_at_croydon_autosports.htm

So all those wrx's (cept one well modded wrx) couldn't beat one lightly modded gtir hmmm.

Each to their own i say.

Friend has pretty std GTiR.

Very few engine mods, but cleverly done - less than 1k spent.

1.2 1/4 @ 110mph.

If I remember correctly Paul R Fiesta RS Turbo got a 0-60 of 4.89. He may have done quicker since. But here you go:

10mph - 0.73
20mph - 1.50
30mph - 2.31
40mph - 3.33
50mph - 4.08
60mph - 4.89
70mph - 6.23
80mph - 7.80
90mph - 9.32
100mph - 11.32

Thats the quickest times by a FWD FRST I know off.

Craig..... 1.2secs!...thats quick....i think you mean 13.2secs

I know of a couple of R's with just a decat, airfilter and bleedvalve on a 1bar GtiR (270-290bhp)that have run a 12.85sec@108mph runs at the pod, but they do need setting up correctly (ie fuel) ,and uprated clutch for it to stop slipping. Most are low 13s becuase people take it slightly easier with the gearchanging and launching... weak box and all that.

I stand by the claims that a totally standard R running correctly can do 13.9secs, i've seen it done a few times, but like cossies, there arn't many standard Rs! Most are 1bar. I've also seen R's with just decat/filter (about 235/240bhp on standard boost 0.65/7bar)) do 13.6secs.

I understand the R's do need more suspension/tyre/brake mods to keep up with scoobs through the bends, but time moves on, most people are going down that route. Once i've got my oil cooler and further suspension mods i'll be on the track, and i'll eat humble pie if I get beating by a simlar powered Sti, but if I do, he spent far more!

Oh, who ever mentioned the new 996 Turbo, they are low 12's, not 12.7secs, and that is a 4wd road car (with a roof) that eats most things on the track, not to mention nearly everything down a B road. I have a neighbour up the road who used to have one, awesome but very very expensive.

Craig-has he got a Cossie as well?I'd be interested to know what mods he's had done to get that time-it's excellent for the boost(12psi IIRC).

Yep sounds like dumped from the rsoc bb his has done a 12.2 1/4 and averaged a 12.4 if I remember rightly? but claimed his mods consisted of 12psi and a exhaust so about 260bhp!! but from his times and terminal speed it would seem like it has ALOT more than 260bhp must be something more to that car? maybe some hidden mods he doesn't know about? still think we better invite him to compete for us at totb as he's not far off the 400bhp cars.
He did say something was done to the fuelling but I never did find out what? maybe the fuel pressure or something as he sais it was over fuelling and the fuel was leaned off a bit.

I used to have a fiesta rst. Did quite a few mods, had it running at 18 psi due to a **** in a garage i took it to. Was very very fast for 3 months before it blew up. IMHO they are a fun car and quite rapid in the dry, in the rain forget it, in standard form they not too bad, but if u have a modded one on wet tarmac you wont be going anywhere fast and youll be beaten by family saloon cars. The torque steer is something else on these cars.

Had it for about 4 years, but times move on and theres only so much u can spend on a car at the end of the day before youre just pouring the money in without any chance of getting it back. I couldnt really see myself in a fiesta much longer at the age of 25 was getting embarrasing.

Once you get into a 4 wheel drive you begin to understand what grip and speed is all about. No point in having a high bhp car if all you do is sit there spinning your wheels, utterly pointless.

Couldn't agree more, FWD are hard to control with lots of power, but it all depends on how the power is delivered, and what suspension setup is available.

To be honest though, the RST's produce the power figures, but in reality, around the track, and down the quarter mile, they are not that impressive, unless they have had a big engine conversion.

Renault 5 GTTurbo's are the best bet for all round performance from an older FWD contender, of which a lot of GTTurbo owners then move onto the GTiR.

I mean, 357bhp out of a 1.4 GTTurbo (road car) is very impressive.

Scoobs are ugly pulsars are even uglier I got the datsun for the car it is and the potential it has. If I wanted looks I would have got a german hairdressers car.

Ohh look Brun has decided to compare a standard pulsar to a scoob with clear lights all round and some aftermarket rims...........prolly lowered too

IMHO the scoob is a better car as a package and will always handle better mod for mod. When you buy a pulsar you are getting the potential to have a good car and will need to improve more things in order for it to perform brakes suspension etc etc.

As for performance you can run a bar all day long and its fine with the usual filter exhaust mods it will see 270-300 BHP unless something is drastically wrong. I have had my car at a bar for 2 years now on standard clutch it get driven hard weekend in weekend out and is used for comuting and has never missed a beat.

"IF" looks came into it i would rather have had a 2 Dr scoob. Having said that I liket the WTF is that factor the Pulsar has.

If I wanted outright pace I would have got a RWD cossie

Andy

imprezza is getting a bad image now as it they are getting cheeper (like saphs/RS Tubbys did)

Datsun has one by default as it looks like a nova with a few cereal boxes stuck to it.......

edited to say whats image got to do with a "drivers" car......

No way! OK, I have a MY95 UK turbo. Have owned it for 3 years and 40,000 miles and it's now done 115,000 miles. It has full de-cat and runs 260bhp and goes like the wind. If I were to sell it I would get no more than 6 - 6.5k but someone would have a bl00dy good car. It had new clutch, Turbo, short engine at 75k (before I bought it) and has never missed a beat since.

For 6k you CAN get a fast, reliable and good looking scooby. The posts above imply that a GTIR with the same mods will have blown up by now so how can you say you'd have a 6k Pulsar over a 6k Scooby. There is sometimes too much of a pre / post facelift split on here.

Plus, 6k will get you an N / P even R reg scooby - the Pulsar will probably be a J / K plate.

Saying that, I like them (GTIRs - the ones I've seen for sale have always been good looking cars and they are fast)

Buy an Evo, much better than both of them if u want a raw rally car, if u want comfort and wear slippers buy a Scooby I too used to love scoobies in the Mcrae era, but now I wanted something individual and hence why I would have a Type R or a 22B but no other. Just my opinion, I like to stand out from the crowd hence the martini graphics on my Nova, just to get people talking!

Nad

P.S. I got a Pulsar but getting an Evo or Skyline after

I am not embarassing myself, all i am saying is the truth, scoobs get more respect at cruises then a pulsar.

Andrew you buy a car for alot of reasons, performance, looks, reliablity and like it or not what other people think of your car.

That comment about getting the thumbs up from BMW drivers?! Personally who really cares what other drivers think of you on the road? I don't go out to seak respect from someone who has a more expensive car than me.

To me it's all about fun. I've got my pretty standard Pulsar and it's a laugh to drive. I do take it to cruises and people do stop to stare, I also get asked in the street what it is and have little kids yell out nice car to me too. My toy car as it were is my MR2 Turbo, I'm doing another engine rebuild to get the power above 400Bhp and was driving about in a diesel whilst it's off the road. I couldn't stand the oil burner, so wanted to get something a bit more fun. I had the money for a Scooby or Cossie, but having driven them all just thought the Pulsar was for me. I paid £4500 for it with a warrenty, low miles, 4 new new tyres and I've not had the slighest bit of trouble with it.

At the end of the day there is no better car out of the bunch. The Scooby is more refined, the Pulsar is rare and drives as raw as a rally car. Also I just feel I don't need to be as careful in my Pulsar as I would have if I'd brought the Scooby, probably because it didn't cost much.

Personally though out of the bunch I still prefer my MR2 Turbo. But lets not get started on great they are!

"scooby is an over priced version of a pulsar hey, next thing i will hear is that a skyline is an over priced version of a scooby.... mate its just a better car, thats why its priced more..."

Once again the Skyline was around before the Impreza so the Impreza is a cheaper version of the Skyline

Now I know Impreza's are good, but are they that good?

Porchse 996 C4
4.9 secs to 60 and
12 secs to 100

Now I know a Porsche is a bench mark, but to drastically do that off the lights you gotta have a lot of bhp.
or just own a standard P1/22b/type r/wrx sti ra which could do above figures....then mod em a bit

You could get a 1.4 sunny, 1.6 sunny, 2.0 litre diesel sunny and a 1.6 16v 100NX coupe then the GTiR plenty of scope .

I actually had a 100NX targa sports coupe for a while a long time ago and it wasnt bad, all show and no go though. I wanted a 200SX but couldnt afford the insurance .

scoobs a good alround package thats what makes it such a good car and al round seller, have u ever driven a evo on the road, its rock hard, cant live with it if you drive your car round town everyday. too uncomfortable, evo is definatly a better track car tho dont get me wrong. Reason u dont get many ferraris and porkys on the road is cos they cost too much.

I put the rx7 in their cos of the 2 door P1 and jap imports.

Yeah buy a cheap car spend loads of money on it, and it will be as good as a more expensive car, yeah that makes sence, i'll remember that when a courtney turbo nova pulls up nxt to me.

PPP,

What EXACTLY is a Scoob up against? If someone has 20k to spend, will they really only look at 4wd turbo cars? Or 25-28k? No they won't. Beemers will normally be on the list.

According to your logic a Scoob isn't up against an S4. Or an RX7.

What you're saying about people trying to pass cheaper cars off as something they're not....

So, get a 5k WRX. 1k on wheels. 1k on ezhaust and downpipe. 1k on brakes. 1k on suspension. Quite common mods on a Scoob. What would said owner be passing this off as then?

A GTiR is a (good) alternative to a Scoob. It's just that people like you can't/won't believe it.

Scoobs are not the only good all rounders. One day you'll realise that.
